Everything cannot be convenience and ease and summaries. Sometimes you have to sit with the material and think about it and engage with it and take your time with it.

Reading is always great for inspiration. Sometimes you read a book that inspires you to create because you now can dream of creating something as wonderful. Other times you read something so underwhelming that the annoyance with lost potential gets you writing out of spite.
