I want to add this tweet could read like I’m bitter towards Meta but I’m not. I know my channel is 99% gaming and for the Meta VR glasses there’s potentially only minor crossover. I like to give my audience my truth the same as every creator regarding products on our niche and If I could back in time and choose to go to Meta Connect instead of spending the week with Steam Frame I wouldn’t do it. 257k views in 4 days on this new hardware and it’s been an amazingly good time exploring what it can and can’t do. If Meta do see this though, I’ll make every effort to be at Meta Connect 2027 for Quest 4 ✌️
This has been the busiest week of my life but it’s also been a lot of fun. It’s rare to get such an interesting product like Valves Steam Frame to review. Then Meta announce their VR Glasses but I’ve been told I won’t be getting any hands on time with them and it’s because I play too many games and I’m not a tech channel. While saying that Pimax Dream Air just turned up so that’s going make next week interesting for PCVR fans. Bigscreen Beyond 2 vs Steam Frame vs Quest 3 vs Dream air. Who said VR is dead?

Meta VR Glasses were built to push Vision Pro aside, and at $1,299 from what I’ve seen, they have done it. I wanted an AVP. Now I want these. Glasses weigh about 100g with the compute puck about 300g. In comparison the new IPhone Duo is 254g. Not heard anything regarding heat dissipation from the puck. My only real worry as a VR user is narrow FOV. @ 70Β° horizontal Γ— 66Β° vertical and about 87–88Β° diagonal. This is small especially in comparison to what I have experienced, but reports are varied and subjective plus there is two frame sizes available which change the IPD range and no seems to mention what size they are using. Hand tracking is also coming back in a big way. Some Quest titles that never shipped with hand tracking as standard will get updates for the Glasses and these have occlusion. Occlusion is a real presence upgrade and adds the magic to immersion that is missing on Quest 3. Not sure about gaming. It can do it but will you want to? Being immersed in our own world makes the FOV less important. Being immersed in another world requires technology that helps escapism. That why we have light blockers for VR headsets and FOV has gotten larger for each generation Overall a very interesting product. Meta have successfully tackled the two key points that made not want to get Apple Vision Pro and that’s price and weight. Here’s today’s video with the rest of my thoughts on Meta VR GlassesπŸ‘‰piped.video/XTN8HKptB50?is=ilmz…

Meta VR makes sense to me. I see some people saying the rename is the death of Quest, I actually think it’s a positive.. β€˜Meta VR’ now means β€˜VR’ is core to every product.

Day 3. I was starting to think the stand alone part of Steam Frame was tacked on and a bit misplaced, but Red Matter 2 by @Vertical_Robot changed everything. This is THE game to see what this headset can really doπŸ‘‰ piped.video/u1JnBrQPc-k?is=eJRD…

Like many of you, I am unfortunately on the Steam Frame waitlist, but today @valvesoftware confirmed they are now sending me a review unit. Thank you to all my developer friends and vr friends who messaged and offered to help me out. Thank you to @valvesoftware for the review unit enabling me to check out games vr developers have been working on to make use of Steam Frames unique features. I now have an extra busy week coming up.
