Can’t throw and catch at an elite level… you can’t play. After coaching 35 years at HS level, I estimate 3 to 5% are elite throwers. Yet it you ask the HS players, they will say “50% are elite throwers.”
Big disconnect as to what an “elite thrower” looks like and what an elite thrower can do!
How do you know if you are close to an elite thrower? You should be able to execute a comprehensive catch play routine for 20 minutes and not throw a single ball away. Not one bad throw and/or miss. Period. And 80% or more of your throws hit your partner in his/her chest. Between the shoulders.
The vast majority have no catch play routine and spend a fraction of that time playing “fetch.”
Players.
How you warm up before a practice or game tells scouts and recruiters a lot about you.
Simply watching you play catch is very important.
Throwing and catching are the most important aspects of playing the game at a high level.
Move your feet, create momentum, use your front side, get your head over your front foot and throw something you would want to catch.
Be great at throwing and catching and you will have an advantage over your competition.
