Many disabled people are also performing caring support for family/friends, paid and unpaid. We agree that Jeremy Vine is the wrong choice because of his history of disablist TV programmes.

Unpaid carers deserve to be celebrated in a space that reflects dignity, respect, and truth. Jeremy Vine’s long‑standing pattern of allowing misinformation about disability benefits and poverty to go unchallenged has caused real harm to disabled people and the carers who support them. His commentary has contributed to stigma, disbelief, and public hostility the very barriers carers face every day. Carers UK’s Awards should be a safe and empowering moment for the caring community. Choosing a host whose public record includes repeated amplification of damaging narratives is incompatible with that purpose. We urge Carers UK to reconsider this decision and to work with carers and disabled people to identify a host who embodies the values of accuracy, solidarity, and respect.
