#GaryNuman Aylesbury, Friars Maxwell Hall was the venue this evening in 1979 on The Touring Principle. #setlist numandiscography.co.uk/htdoc… Gary Numan's “massive fluorescent lighting towers” at Maxwell Hall in 1979 set a new standard for production at the venue.

#GaryNuman #TubewayArmy Another question arising from my research into the earliest Tubeway Army gigs. I've come across references to a group called Henry Strand and the Westway Band, reportedly involving Joe Strummer and Mick Jones, and also mentioned in connection with Alan Wilder's early band Cloaca on the West London circuit. What makes this particularly confusing is that Derek Gibbs of The Satellites also performed under the name Henry Strand, and later produced the Sound of the Westway fanzine. The Satellites themselves played with Tubeway Army at Oriel Youth Centre, Northolt, in December 1977. At the moment I'm trying to establish exactly who Henry Strand and the Westway Band were, when they existed and where they played. I'm particularly interested in any connection with Tubeway Army during 1977/78. If anyone remembers the name or has a contemporary flyer, advert, fanzine, photograph or gig listing, please get in touch. There are a few conflicting accounts around this period, so contemporary evidence would be especially useful.

#GaryNuman #TubewayArmy One for the early punk historians and Alan Wilder followers. While researching Tubeway Army's earliest live history, I've found references to Alan Wilder and Ted Ing's early band Cloaca playing around West London and supporting Tubeway Army. However, the dates don't immediately add up. Gary Numan was playing under several different band names during 1975/76, and the name Tubeway Army only appears in 1977, shortly before the earliest currently documented Tubeway Army gig at the Roxy on 25 June 1977. Wilder, meanwhile, was already involved with The Dragons in early 1977. So when did Cloaca actually support Tubeway Army — and where? Was it genuinely billed as Tubeway Army, or has the name been applied retrospectively to an earlier Gary Numan band? If anyone remembers the gig, or has a flyer, advert, diary entry or other contemporary evidence, I'd be very interested to hear from you.

#GaryNuman Another improvement to the Discography today. Country navigation across the release sections has been updated, replacing the old three-letter country codes with full country names and flags, making different international releases much easier to identify at a glance. I've also refreshed the version buttons where multiple pressings are listed. A small change, but a big improvement when working through releases with numerous international variations.

#GaryNuman #TubewayArmy Work on the Production section of Numan Discography has started to lead the website in another direction. Researching pressing plants, mastering studios, sleeve printers and the engineers involved in producing the records has highlighted just how much more information can be added to the original LP discography. As a result, I’ve brought forward a full audit of the LP pages. Each UK and international version is being checked again — not just catalogue numbers and release dates, but label variations, sleeves, pressing plants, matrix identifiers and the manufacturing people behind the records. One piece of research is leading naturally into another, and gradually building a much more detailed picture of how these records were actually produced.

#GaryNuman A mammoth task that I’ve put off for some time — a full audit of the Support Acts section of Numan Discography. Dates, venues, appearances and links have been checked across the archive, with a number of long-standing errors and duplicate entries corrected. The database currently records 176 different support acts and 1,036 support appearances from 1979 to 2026. There will always be more information to find and add, but the section is now considerably more accurate and up to date. numandiscography.co.uk
