New 'NARUTO' live-action details have reportedly been revealed:
The adaptation will give Sakura a more prominent role, with her already possessing her abilities from the beginning. Naruto is portrayed as someone deeply interested in ninja history, while the romance dynamic is also different: he doesn't have feelings for Sakura, but Sasuke does.
Sakura's family background has also been expanded, with her father dying during Kurama's attack and her mother coming from a wealthy, snobbish family. The film also establishes that becoming a Jinchuriki is tied to one's bloodline, limiting who can have a Tailed Beast sealed within them. - via

Kishimoto has also shared his thoughts on director Destin Daniel Cretton:
"When I heard of Destin’s attachment, it happened to be right after watching a blockbuster action film of his, and I thought he would be the perfect director for Naruto... After enjoying his other films and understanding that his forte is in creating solid dramas about people, I became convinced that there is no other director for Naruto."
He added that meeting Cretton further convinced him they could work well together during production.
Kishimoto also said he regretted not exploring Sakura's family more in the original manga:
"I would have liked to delve deeper into the character of Sakura Haruno. She’s the only one whose parents weren’t actually drawn. I should’ve talked about them earlier in the story, but I missed the chance."
