“inventing new words and meanings" This is one of the scariest things AI does for the Hausa language that few pay attention to. The problem didn’t only stop at creating unverified words, but also tampered with public data, which later hunts the AI itself down.
How and who should interrogate our language? For Hausa, the way AI chatbots are confidently re-rendering it by inventing new words and meanings, unnatural plural forms, breaking established rules and taboos to obey user queries may end up enacting unknown or reimagined realities.

I don't know who initially said this, but I'm sure he's unmarried.
I have a theory that marriage distracts men from greatness.

10 years ago today, I started a little thing called Poetic Wednesdays Initiative @Poeticwednexday Today, it is one of the most impactful literary organizations in Northern Nigeria. It is also one of the things I'm most proud of in this world. Alhamdulillah

In modern warfare, if you attack with 1000 soldiers, and 10 of them die, you have recorded a serious casualty. In Northern Nigeria, 10 women die out of every 1000 that get into labor. Wartime numbers in labor rooms. Few are asking questions. And those responsible do not care.

The tendency to link Islam with conflict has deep roots in history. Many datasets used to train today’s language models come from archives, reports, and colonial-era sources that often misrepresented African communities, religions, and cultures. open.substack.com/pub/habibs…

The Video of the landing.
An exhilarating moment as a locally developed drone designed and developed by Adnan Musa Ibrahim takes flight over Kano. Adnan who is a machine learning engineer not only built the system but also expertly flew and controlled it, showcasing the growing power of local innovation. From security and surveillance, precision agriculture, aviation support, maritime monitoring, disaster response, environmental protection, logistics and delivery, infrastructure inspection, smart city management, mapping, oil & gas operations, to research and education, the possibilities are vast and transformative. Maga people will teach you Nigerians how propaganda works. They're embedding your face, your accent and language into large language models to justify the planned domination of your country's sovereignty and steal your resources. Don't ask me how I know. Go check for yourself at 2:16.

Among the professional Hausa translators I have met, the strongest ones share a quiet habit: they read fiction and literature with seriousness, the way others study manuals. habibinsights.com/index.php/…

Delay is surely destroying traditional banks in Nigeria. These guys enjoy making customers wait unnecessarily in an era that favors speed.

This is sadly understandable for a failed system where people have no options, but for a business, you can’t run it like that and succeed.
62
One must wait for hours at the hospital before being attended to. One must visit their school offices hundreds of times just to luckily find one person to sign their paper. One must spend years following up before collecting scripts after graduating.
63
I don’t know in how many ways Nigeria affects us, because this delay syndrome originated from it.
44
People who are more digital are already making transactions worth millions of naira via the fintechs. Just give it some time like 5-7 years, the data will change because those fellows of ours in rural areas will follow suit.
33
This delay and other similar issues have already affected such banks, as their customer base is thinning day by day, as Techpoint Africa noted. Now people prefer using fintechs for transactions of ₦200k and below instead of traditional ones like Stanbic.
30
A common transfer error will make one spend over 4 hrs in a queue at GTBank, First Bank, or any other traditional bank, while fintechs like Opay, Kuda, Palmpay, or Moniepoint solve the same issue through simple email exchanges with their apps’ help centers.
