I wasn’t going to wait for Nintendo to release a V2 Zelda 40th edition. I built my own. 😎🔧
My Nintendo Switch 2 now combines the 40th-anniversary The Legend of Zelda shell with the refreshed V2 internals and removable battery. New motherboard, everything transferred and fitted. 🔥
Look at the production markings highlighted in red: they suggest roughly the same production period, yet two different internal designs. Why not standardize the construction or at least give the special edition the newer hardware? A special edition should feel special on the inside, too.
While rebuilding it, I also fitted PTM7590 form @LinusTech at thermal interfaces and upgraded the Joy-Cons with Drift Free TMR sticks for precise control. 🎮
Tomorrow: fan-noise testing and a comparison with what @austinnotduncan showed. Let’s see how this setup performs. 👀

Nintendo learned its lesson with the Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Limited Edition! 🔥
The decorative coating on this edition holds up seriously well. I tested it with 99.9% alcohol, and even with repeated rubbing, I saw no visible damage, fading, or coating coming off. The finish stayed intact throughout my test.
Credit where it’s due: Nintendo really delivered on the finish of this limited edition. It looks fantastic and held up impressively! 👏
Don’t try this at home. I pushed it to show you how the surface handled my test this isn’t a cleaning recommendation.

🚨 Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 teardown time. Unfortunately, I bring bad news.
My European retail unit is V1:
• BEE-CPU-01 motherboard
• NVIDIA GMLX30-A1
• Original display
• Older fan not the quieter V2 version @austinnotduncan tested
• No easy-swap V2 battery
The thermal paste application in mine doesn’t look particularly impressive either.
The edition itself is absolutely beautiful. But I was hoping for newer hardware inside.
Luckily, I have idea … 🔧😎
Got yours? Does the serial number start with HAE or HLE? Share the prefix and your country let’s see whether anyone received a V2 Zelda.

Rumor has it that Sony is planning to make a Solid State Cartridge to replace the legacy Blue-Ray disc for PS6!
Would you prefer that than an all digital future?
