It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, young brother of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. On behalf of the Government and people of Burundi, and in my capacity as Chairperson of the African Union, I extend my heartfelt condolences to His Highness, the Royal Family, the Government and the people of the United Arab Emirates.

Dans le cadre du processus de paix au Soudan, je viens de recevoir une délégation venue de Khartoum, conduite par le Lieutenant-Général Mohammed Ali Siber, Envoyé spécial de Son Excellence Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, porteur d’un message. Au cours de cette audience, l’engagement en faveur de la paix au Soudan a été réaffirmé et une feuille de route a été présentée. Je me réjouis que toutes les parties se montrent réceptives au cessez-le-feu et au processus politique.

Ethiopia holds a singular place in the heart of our continent. As the cradle of African diplomacy and proud host of the African Union's headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia has long stood as a living symbol of the unity, independence and dignity that generations of Africans have fought for. I have personally witnessed, through Ethiopia's hospitality and steadfast partnership, the depth of this nation's commitment to our shared continental project. On this New Year, I pray for the Ethiopian people peace in their homes, unity among their communities, and prosperity in their endeavors. As Chairperson of our Union, I reaffirm my personal solidarity with Ethiopia and my unwavering commitment, alongside all Member States, to building the united, peaceful and prosperous #Africa that Ethiopia has done so much to inspire. With profound sorrow, I have learned of the passing of Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Her Excellency Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania. On my own behalf, and on behalf of the Government and people of Burundi, I extend my deepest condolences to President Samia, her family, and the people of Tanzania. In this hour of grief, Burundi stands firmly beside our Tanzanian brothers and sisters. May the Almighty grant President Samia and her family comfort and strength in this difficult moment, and may He grant eternal rest to the soul of Hafidh Ameir Hassan.

Après avoir reçu, le 10 juillet 2026, la délégation envoyée de Khartoum par Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, je me réjouis d’avoir également reçu ce 04 septembre 2026 la délégation de Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. Les échanges ont permis aux deux parties de réaffirmer leur attachement au rétablissement d’une paix durable au Soudan.

It is with deep sorrow that I learned of the passing of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway, who departed this life on 28 August 2026 after 35 years of dedicated reign. On behalf of the people and Government of Burundi, I extend heartfelt condolences to King Haakon VIII, the Royal Family, and the Norwegian people. King Harald’s legacy of humility, wisdom, and service will long be remembered. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
