Some people never got the chance to tell their own story. Christie Burgess was one of them. Her brother Adam had to tell it for her. Christie received her second Moderna shot in April 2021. Six days later, she was found unresponsive at home after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage. She never recovered. Adam described his family standing around her hospital bed, holding her hand, pleading with her to come back. He leaned over and told his sister he was going to be a dad. A tear rolled down her cheek. That was the last time he saw her. Christie never met his child. Adam went home without his sister. Nicole Maurier’s only child, Abigail, was 24 years old and just beginning her career as a cardiology technologist in Red Deer. She had already recovered from COVID, but vaccination was still required for her job. She received two Pfizer shots in the fall of 2021. About 18 months later, Abigail was diagnosed with NUT carcinoma, an extremely rare and aggressive cancer. Within weeks, she was gone. In her final hours, Nicole climbed into the hospital bed beside her daughter and sang her a lullaby as she took her last breaths. Abigail had her education, her career and her entire adult life ahead of her. Nicole was supposed to watch her daughter build that life — not watch it end. And when a 24-year-old dies after being required to make a medical decision to keep her job, her mother has every right to ask questions about what happened. Detective Helen Grus had been an Ottawa police officer for 19 years when she began questioning what she believed was an unusual number of sudden infant deaths. Two cases kept her awake at night. Helen testified that both babies had been sent home healthy, then suddenly collapsed and died in their parents’ arms while being picked up to feed. In 19 years of policing, she said she had never seen that happen. Helen started asking questions and raised her concerns with the chief of police. Weeks later, she was suspended as her conduct was investigated. A police tribunal later found she had conducted unauthorized inquiries into cases she wasn't assigned to; Helen has maintained the deaths warranted investigation. She never claimed she knew what killed those babies. She wanted to know why they were dying. And for asking, the detective became the one under investigation. @AllisonInquiry

Drue Taylor wasn’t afraid of vaccines. She testified that she was actually excited to get her first Moderna shot. Then, within hours, her heart was racing and she felt like she could pass out. A cardiologist began investigating her for POTS and told her not to get the second shot until she had been properly assessed. But the pressure to get dose two continued. This is a mother who taught yoga, worked as a massage therapist and used to run alongside her kids while they rode their bikes. That was her life before all of this. She eventually gave in and got the second shot. Within 24 hours, she says everything got worse. She was fainting trying to get to the bathroom. Her heart rate would go over 200 just walking to the kitchen. Eventually, she needed a cane and wheelchair. Her own doctor agreed she was dealing with a vaccine injury — and didn’t know where else to send her for help. They hadn’t even figured out what happened after the first shot. That’s how Canadians were talked about for refusing a medical decision — including people like Stéphanie Giguère, who says she was already injured after her first dose. One dose made her vaccine-injured. Not taking another made her one of them. She says she watched as people were mocked, shamed, excluded and treated like they were the problem — while those already suffering struggled to get anyone to listen. Dr. Crystal Luchkiw came to Parliament Hill to tell the story her brother never got the chance to tell himself. Scott Gorrie had spent nearly a decade working on Parliament Hill as a parliamentary staffer. He was a husband, a father of two, and he died before he could testify about the health problems he experienced following his COVID vaccination. Crystal is a doctor, and her message about what happened to medicine during COVID was simple: Do no harm. Yet informed consent became mandates. People faced losing their jobs over a medical decision. Doctors who questioned what they were seeing faced consequences themselves. That isn't informed consent. A doctor's job, Crystal said, is to give you the information, let you decide, and support your decision. No threats. No coercion. No force. “Do no harm. Not some harm and not some harm to some people to benefit others. No harm.” A pandemic didn't make those principles optional. @AllisonInquiry

Five years later, Dan Hartman still cries for his son. Sean was 17 years old and wanted to keep playing hockey. Dan testified that Sean received a Pfizer COVID shot in August 2021, went to the ER four days later, and died 33 days after the shot. His autopsy listed his cause of death as “unascertained.” Dan has spent the years since fighting for what he says he wanted from the very beginning: the truth. He doesn’t care about the money. He says no amount could ever make this right. “I only wanted them to admit that Sean was one of the people who died from his shot.” Five years later, Dan says he’s still crying every day. “There’s no healing from this.” A dad who lost his son isn’t asking to be made rich. Stéphanie Giguère was a psychotherapist, healthy and fully functional before receiving her first and only Moderna shot. About 90 minutes later, she says her hands went numb. Then came 23 days of intense pressure and “pain in my brain,” a resting heart rate as high as 160, slurred speech, lost words, weakness, falls and loss of bladder control. She became so uncoordinated she struggled to feed herself. She was sleeping up to 20 hours a night. Her husband had to dress her. She still tried to go to work. But instead of answers, Stéphanie says she was diagnosed with adjustment disorder with mixed anxiety and depressed mood. Normally, the pauses get cut. The filler words get cleaned up. The silence gets edited out. We're not doing that this time. Robert Denesiuk struggled to get some of these words out, and people should see that too. After his COVID vaccination, Robert testified that he developed Guillain-Barré syndrome. He spent roughly six and a half months in hospitals, lost about 60 pounds and had to relearn how to stand and walk. He still needs help with everyday things most of us never think twice about. Robert was already vulnerable. People like him were the ones we were told all of this was supposed to protect. Instead, he was left dealing with an injury that changed his life. Allison Inquiry And when he was asked if he was afraid when people thought he might die, his answer was simple: “No. I have faith in Jesus.” There are pauses in this clip, there are tears. Nicole Sedore was a single mom of two boys when, after her Pfizer shot, she says her hand swelled to nearly three times its size. Months later, doctors discovered a massive blood clot under her arm and a 10mm brain aneurysm. She underwent brain surgery, but testified that what remains of the aneurysm has since grown and is now too dangerous to operate on. But it was what she said about her boys that was hard to hear. Nicole has already had to ask her 18-year-old son to raise his younger brother if she dies. And since her youngest was six, there’s been a sticky note on their fridge telling him what to do if his mom goes down: Call 911. Tell them it’s a brain aneurysm. Hurry. As Nicole put it, people see the person sitting in front of them. What they don’t see is “the despair, the abandonment, the financial insecurity.” Her boys have grown up knowing exactly what to do if their mom collapses. @AllisonInquiry

Jamie Daniel spent her career as an advanced care paramedic and practical nurse. Then she became the one begging the healthcare system for help. Within 48 hours of her first COVID shot, Jamie says she was dealing with severe spinal pain, numbness and problems with her bladder and bowels. She was eventually diagnosed with MRI-negative transverse myelitis, which she testified her neurologist attributed to the vaccine. During a later relapse, Jamie ended up back in hospital in excruciating pain. She was in her early 30s with a baby at home who had just been in the ICU. She wasn’t suicidal. She was asking for help. Instead, she says they brought in a psychologist to talk to her about MAID. “Instead of treating my pain, instead of finding me help, they wanted to euthanize me.” @AllisonInquiry

Dr. Charles Hoffe had been practising medicine in small-town B.C. for decades when he began seeing something he had never seen before. In his testimony, Hoffe described his emergency room throughout 2020 and into 2021 as “the quietest it had ever been.” He said there had been no COVID hospitalizations in his community. Then the vaccine rollout began. Hoffe described previously healthy patients coming to him with unusual neurological problems — severe burning pain, symmetrical weakness and cranial nerve issues. He began reporting what he was seeing and trying to get those patients help. In his testimony, Hoffe said referrals to major B.C. neurology departments were refused when suspected vaccine injury was mentioned. He eventually wrote directly to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry about what he was seeing in his patients. He was later reported to the College and faced disciplinary proceedings. He was a small-town doctor watching something happen to his patients — and he refused to stay quiet about it. @AllisonInquiry

Jannine Duffy walked two kilometres to work, spent the day on her feet, then walked two kilometres home — rain or snow. She still had the energy to cook dinner and garden afterward. Then, after receiving her first Moderna shot, Jannine testified that her thumb went numb during her shift. It’s still numb today. Over the following weeks, her fingers and toes began turning blue. She became weaker, her calves burned when she walked, and her doctor warned that if things got worse, she could lose her fingers and toes. Her health continued to deteriorate. Eventually she went from a wheelchair to a walker, and a surgeon told her the loss of circulation had caused severe destruction in her hips — damage that looked like it had been developing for 10 years. Six months earlier, she had been walking normally. Her daughter Jennifer became her caregiver, accompanying her to appointments and helping piece together medical details Jannine now struggles to remember. Eva Caven spent 42 years as a registered nurse, caring for others. Five days before receiving her Pfizer shot, Eva testified that a routine eye exam showed she had 20/20 vision. After the shot, she developed severe inflammation in her eye that progressed despite treatment. What followed were years of appointments, procedures and constant burning pain. Her vision continued to deteriorate until she could no longer make out faces or details. Now, Eva says she can only see shadows out of that eye. After more than four decades spent caring for patients, she was forced to retire early and learn how to live with the loss of her sight. She went from 20/20 vision to seeing shadows. @AllisonInquiry
