Happy World Teachers’ Day! Today, October 5, I join the global community in celebrating our teachers on World Teachers’ Day. Teachers belong to one of the most important professions in any society. They are not merely imparting knowledge; they are shaping minds, nurturing character, and preparing the next generation of citizens, professionals, and leaders. The quality of our teachers will, to a great extent, determine the quality of our human capital and, ultimately, the future of our nation. I salute our teachers for their resilience, dedication, and immense sacrifices, often made under difficult socio-economic conditions. We must do more to improve their welfare, ensure the prompt payment of their salaries, provide conducive working environments, and equip them with the tools required to teach effectively. The dignity of the teaching profession must be restored. Nigeria cannot successfully address the challenges of out-of-school children, unemployment, poverty, and underdevelopment without making deliberate and sustained investments in education. Education must therefore receive greater priority in our national planning and budgeting, with teachers and educational infrastructure receiving the attention they deserve. To every Nigerian teacher, I thank you for your service and for continuing to build our nation, one child at a time. Please remain steadfast and hopeful. The Nigeria we all desire is possible, and building it begins with investing in our people. With improved education, a new Nigeria that will be okay if possible. Happy World Teachers’ Day! -PO

What we saw in Ramin Kura is not an isolated story. It is a reflection of the suffering experienced, in different forms, across many parts of Nigeria. And yet, while ordinary Nigerians struggle with these realities, this present government often behaves as though these problems belong to another country. The political leaders, have failed our country and, most importantly, we have failed our children. This must change. My message today is not one of despair. It is a message of hope, determination and responsibility. I dare to proclaim with full assurance that a new Nigeria is possible. As President of Nigeria, I will make governance measurable, accountable and centred on the welfare and productivity of our people. Within the first year, Nigerians will begin to see the tangible impact of purposeful and effective leadership. We will confront insecurity decisively so that our farmers can return to their farms, our children can return to school, businesses can operate freely, and families can live without fear. No Nigerian should be forced to live in an IDP camp because his or her government has failed to provide security. My administration will work to ensure that Nigerians displaced by insecurity can begin to return safely and with dignity to their communities. We will move from a consumption-driven economy to a productive economy, one that creates jobs, expands opportunities, supports agriculture and manufacturing, invests in human capital, and makes Nigeria a country where young people can build meaningful lives. We will prioritise education, healthcare, security and productive enterprise because these are not luxuries. They are the foundations of a functioning nation. As I have always done, I will lead by example. In four years as President of this great nation, I will not spend my holidays outside Nigeria. My holidays will be spent in Zamfara State; Borno State; Kwara State; Ebonyi State; Edo State; Ekiti State and other Nigerian States. I want to continue to see Nigeria. I want to know Nigeria. I want to spend time with Nigerians, listen to them, understand their challenges and celebrate their resilience. We will build a Nigeria that is secure, united and productive; a Nigeria governed with competence, accountability and justice; a Nigeria where no child is denied education because of untold poverty or unbearable insecurity; where no mother dies because she cannot access basic healthcare; where farmers can return safely to their farms; where young people can find opportunities to work and prosper; and where public resources are deployed strictly for the public good. We will build a Nigeria that our children and future generations will be proud to inherit, a Nigeria where unity, peace, justice and prosperity are not merely words in speeches, but lived realities for our people. On this sixty-sixth Independence Anniversary, let us look back with gratitude, look around us with honesty, and look forward with courage. The Nigeria we desire will not be built by prayers alone, nor by promises alone. It will be built by leadership that understands that public office is a sacred trust, by citizens who demand accountability, and by all of us who refuse to accept failure as our destiny. It is time to build the new and productive Nigeria that is possible. May God Almighty bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. -PO

Nigeria at 66: Looking Back, Looking Forward Fellow Nigerians, Today we mark the sixty-sixth anniversary of our independence. It ought to be a day of celebration and thanksgiving to God Almighty for the gift of life and for the immense blessings He has bestowed on our nation—our diversity, our abundant human and natural resources, our vast agricultural potential, and the relative absence of devastating natural disasters. It should also be a day of appreciation and patriotism: a day to remember our founding fathers and all those who made selfless, and in many cases supreme, sacrifices for the birth, survival and growth of our dear nation. We must acknowledge the efforts of past and present leaders who have laboured, however imperfectly, to build a better Nigeria. Yet independence anniversaries must never be reduced to mere celebration. They are moments for honest national reflection. We must look back, examine where we stand today, and ask ourselves whether we are moving in the direction our founding fathers envisioned. In national planning and strategy, every serious nation must continually ask three fundamental questions: Where are we today? Where do we want to be? How do we get from where we are to where we want to be? These questions are especially urgent now. Despite the enormous promises made by the APC-led government in 2023, our nation continues to face deepening challenges across virtually every critical sector of national life. Today we stand before the world as a nation: With an extraordinarily large population living in poverty and severe hardship; over 140M With one of the largest populations of out-of-school children in the world; over 18M Where insecurity, terrorism, banditry and kidnapping continue to threaten lives and livelihoods, just recently 37 young Nigerians in their productive age lost their lives Where millions of Nigerians struggle with hunger and food insecurity; over 40M Nigerians will be in extreme hunger by the end of 2026. With unacceptably high rates of infant and maternal mortality; Nigeria today is the worst place to be born. Where youth unemployment and underemployment remain alarmingly high; over 35M Where drug abuse and substance misuse increasingly threaten our young population; today 14% as against global average of 6% Where life expectancy remains among the lowest globally, today 54 years against global average of 74 years And the list goes on. This reality demands serious, sober and honest reflection. Socrates taught that “the unexamined life is not worth living.” By the same principle, an unexamined nation cannot successfully chart its future. We must therefore ask ourselves: Are we cursed, or have we become the curse through the choices we have made and the failures we have tolerated? The answer cannot be that Nigeria is cursed. We are a nation immensely endowed and blessed. Our greatest problem is not a lack of resources; it is the failure to convert our enormous resources into human development, productivity, security and shared prosperity. Only yesterday, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and I returned from a two-day visit to Sokoto State. We held extensive consultations with people from different parts of the state on insecurity, out-of-school children, poverty, youth unemployment, drug abuse and other challenges confronting our people. In concluding the visit, we went to the Internally Displaced Persons camp at Ramin Kura within Sokoto metropolis. What we saw was deeply troubling. Thousands of women and children live in deplorable conditions, displaced from their homes and deprived of the basic necessities of life. Many of the children have no access to education. Mothers and children have limited access to basic healthcare. These are Nigerians who should be living in their communities, going to school, farming their land, conducting their businesses and contributing to the economy. Instead, they live as displaced persons in their own country.

This morning I read where Akin “Tollgate,” not Akinwale, was eulogising the APC-led administration of President Tinubu’s anti-people reforms. What Akin failed to tell Nigerians is that it is the same APC government that brought us here in the first place, and I do not think the APC government will get us out. The same people who defended Buhari’s policies then are the same people praising Tinubu’s policies, which they now claim are righting the wrongs of Buhari’s policies. We need a change, and the NDC is the alternative.

A SPECIAL APPRECIATION TO HIS EXCELLENCY, PETER OBI Today, I want to take a moment to sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Peter Obi, for the consistency, courage and determination he has continued to demonstrate in advocating for a New Nigeria. In a political environment where public attention can easily be diverted by propaganda, personal attacks and endless political drama, Peter Obi has continued to place emphasis on issues that directly affect the lives and future of Nigerians, accountability, responsible management of public resources, security, education, healthcare, production, employment and economic development. What many of us appreciate is the consistency of the message, Whether he is speaking about the economy, public expenditure, insecurity, education, healthcare or the need to move Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to a productive one, the central argument remains the same:Nigeria has the human and natural resources to succeed, but leadership must be accountable and focused on results. His recent calls for greater transparency over public spending are another example of the issues he continues to raise. In July 2026, Obi called for accountability following reporting around IMF concerns over off-budget expenditure, arguing that Nigerians deserve transparency in the management of public resources. I also appreciate his willingness to continue speaking about the difficult realities confronting ordinary Nigerians. He has repeatedly highlighted hunger, insecurity, unemployment, declining purchasing power and the need for government to create an economy where citizens can produce, work and prosper. To us his supporters, this consistency is one of the reasons his message continues to resonate. When others focus on political distractions, we want leaders who keep bringing the conversation back to Nigeria and the Nigerian people. And yes, as a supporter, I personally regard Peter Obi as one of the cleanest and most principled politicians in Nigeria today. That is my assessment based on what I have observed from his public conduct, statements and political journey, not a claim that any politician is beyond scrutiny. Your Excellency, thank you for continuing to speak about the Nigeria we can build, Thank you for reminding Nigerians that leadership should be about service, accountability and responsibility and not personal enrichment. Thank you for continuing to challenge us to demand better governance. Thank you for keeping alive the belief that a New Nigeria is possible. The road may be difficult, The ruling party may be loud, the distractions may be many, But the dream of a better Nigeria must remain bigger than any individual, political party or temporary obstacle. Nigeria belongs to all of us. And for those of us who believe in a country where public resources are responsibly managed, where merit matters, where young people have opportunities, where citizens can live securely and where government genuinely works for the people, the struggle for that Nigeria must continue. Thank you, HE Peter Obi @PeterObi , for staying consistent. Thank you for keeping the conversation alive. Thank you for continuing to advocate for a New Nigeria. 🇳🇬 #ANEWNIGERIAISPOSSIBLE. #LETUSKEEPBELIEVING. #LETUSKEEPWORKING. #LETUSKEEPHOLDINGLEADERS #ACCOUNTABLE. OBI COMMITS TO 'NO VOTE BUYING Peter Obi, the preferred candidate and presidential standard-bearer of the NDC, has committed to a policy of 'no vote buying'. Speaking during a town hall meeting in Sokoto, Obi, in his characteristic anti-corruption posture, said he and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will not give money to NDC party agents to bribe voters during the forthcoming 2027 presidential election. According to him, such corrupt practices help to accentuate the level of poverty in the country. As Obi has boldly committed to 'no vote buying' and other corrupt practices, can the ruling APC and the Tinubu-led government commit to 'no vote buying' and other corrupt practices? That is the challenge. For a New Nigeria is Possible! We can do it!

In the Caliphate with a Message of Hope for the Poor and Unity in Nigeria. Today, ahead of our town-hall engagements in Sokoto, Sokoto State, I had the privilege of paying a courtesy visit to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, alongside my brother and running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and members of our team. We used the opportunity of the visit to condole with him on the recent death of the Sardauna of Sokoto. In my remarks, I emphasised the urgent need to unite and secure our nation, tackle poverty, create employment, and rebuild confidence in our country. His Eminence warmly received us and spoke with the wisdom of a father and national leader. He recalled that he has known me for almost 46 years, since 1980, when I was in my first year at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and has maintained a cordial relationship since then. He reminded us that leadership comes from Almighty Allah and carries a responsibility for which we will ultimately be held accountable. He also mentioned three critical priorities for Nigeria: security, poverty, and employment. He additionally reminded us that our diversity of tribes, tongues, and faiths is part of God's creation and should be our strength, not our weakness. We do not seek to Islamise or Christianise anyone. We seek to build a Nigeria where every citizen can live safely, prosper, and have a genuine sense of belonging. May Almighty God continue to bless His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, the people of Sokoto State, and our beloved Nigeria. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

The Infinite Possibilities of Sport Today, accompanied by Ladipo Johnson, the NDC candidate for Lagos Central Senatorial District, and Aisha Jimoh, the NDC candidate for the House of Representatives, Lagos Island Constituency II, we went to the Onikan Stadium to watch the local league match between Enugu Rangers FC and Ikorodu City FC. As the match unfolded, I thought about the enormous possibilities of sport and how countries such as Brazil and Jamaica have used it to engage young people, fight crime, and create opportunities. It pained me to see how poorly we are developing sports in Nigeria. A stadium with a capacity of about 10,000 had fewer than 2,000 spectators. Nigeria has no shortage of sporting talent. What we lack is the vision and commitment to turn that talent into opportunities for our young people. Sport is not merely entertainment; properly developed, it can be a powerful tool for youth development, employment, and social transformation. A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO
