Then he made one of my all time favorite debate moments:   "If they're so determined to go to war, the only thing I plead with you for if this is the case, is do it properly. Ask the people and ask the Congress for a declaration of war. This is war! People are gonna die and you gotta get a declaration of war!"

Republican pitch for the midterms goes something like this: “Come on, don’t you prefer Republican Socialism over Democrat Socialism?” No thanks. On average Republicans are better than Democrats on most things, but I’m done averaging down.

When the people elected Republicans to fix the affordability crisis, I bet they meant the existing crisis at that time.. Not that they wanted Republicans to create a new crisis and fail to fix that one, too.

AI companies asking for government regulation should come as no surprise.. Companies like Pfizer and Moderna love that the FDA protects them from competition and liability. GM and Ford supported vehicle regulations in the 1960’s.. Zuckerberg supported social media regulation in 2018.. AT&T asked for regulation in the early 1900’s.. Appliance manufacturers in the 1980’s.. Philip Morris in 2000.. Even the railroads in the late 1800’s helped create their own regulation and stated in the 1890’s (among themselves) the Interstate Commerce Commission would be useful to their own interests. I find it much more likely that the big AI companies are looking to secure their moat, supersede potential state barriers, and protect themselves from liability- rather than attempting to save humanity from something they are spending trillions to create.

Ironically, Trump just made a great argument for why we shouldn’t want government control of AI.

25 years and I still get so upset knowing Bin Laden got everything he wanted afterwards. In fact I don't think he could've predicted 9/11's ultimate success in his wildest dreams. We wasted thousands more lives (and we're still at war in the region). Americans traded away hard won liberties for the feelings of security. New departments, new agencies, trillions in debt that we're still suffering from today. The biggest threat to our freedom is the US Government and 9/11 marks the beginning of its exponential growth. It's the anniversary of a tough day for America. Mainly for those who lost loved ones, but also because it negatively changed our country forever and it didn't have to be this way.

Eventually it will become commonplace that these cameras are used to compile a comprehensive list of those who participated in an anti-government protest. Right now the right hates protesters so they aren’t worried, but in the future they will question how this ever happened. It’s happening now. Each new removal of liberties begins with something practical and unpopular to argue against- keeping people safe. But the government is only truly concerned with its own safety. That’s the inevitable use of this technology.

Is Trump’s $5k promise a bribe? Of course it is. Just like offering “free” healthcare, college, or childcare. Just like promising to increase the federal minimum wage, or to freeze rents. Elections in America are a contest to distribute a pot of stolen, borrowed, or printed money in exchange for votes. They have been for a long time. Maybe a promise this ridiculous will finally get the laugh it deserves. We don’t have the money, it would cause horrible inflation, and there is exactly 0% it will happen.
