As the first Black Rhodes Scholar in the history of @JohnsHopkins, I’m grateful for all this university has done to open doors for me.
And I’m just as grateful for the work Hopkins does in Baltimore every day, from caring for families and supporting local organizations to providing jobs and education.

Earlier today, I learned that Chief George Bacorn of the Denton Police Department passed away following a motor vehicle collision.
Chief Bacorn served as Chief for 36 years, as well as acting as the head of the MML Chiefs and Sheriffs Association this year. He embodied the meaning of serving others and dedicated his life to keeping communities safe for everyone. Denton, Caroline County, and all of Maryland is a better place because of his courage and public service.
I have ordered the Maryland Flag lowered to half-staff and ask all of Maryland to join Dawn and I in praying for his family, the entire Denton Police Department, law enforcement colleagues, and community.

I’m heartbroken by the bus crash in East Baltimore earlier today.
Both Dawn and I are praying for everyone involved and are incredibly grateful to the first responders on the site of the crash. My team will continue to monitor the situation as it develops.

The federal administration’s termination of Temporary Protected Status for Haitians is putting families across our Eastern Shore in an impossible position.
These are parents, caregivers to our seniors, and poultry farm workers who help keep our communities running. Many have American children, who now face the prospect of separation from their families.

Dawn and I are heartbroken to learn that former Delegate Carolyn Howard passed away this weekend.
She served our state and Prince George’s County for over 30 years – pouring herself into the promise of a better life for every life she touched.
