In a funny story about life imitating art imitating life... If you remember the James Bond movie SPECTRE from 10 years ago they had this really cool opening scene shot in Mexico City during the Day of the Dead where everyone was dressed up with skeleton masks. It turns out in Mexico, The Day of the Dead is normally more celebrated at one's house and is not a public type of thing. However a higher-up in the government realized correctly that people watching the movie would think that this parade was actually a real thing rather instead of being created just for the movie and it would generate visitors to the city. So the next year so they started the Day of the Dead parade in Mexico City and last year 1.5 million people attended the parade over the Day of the Dead weekend. Kind of cool to see that a movie made up a thing about real life which then real life actually made real.

Nithya Raman voted against hiring 170 police officers to replace officers who retired—like Marcos. Fewer police officers mean longer response times and unsolved crimes. That’s why police officers are requesting that you do your research – and that you don’t vote for Nithya Raman.

This should alarm every Californian. As of Oct. 1, Lancaster and Palmdale in my district now have the highest sales tax in the state: 11.75%. Families here are already paying $6+ for gas. We cannot keep absorbing tax hike after tax hike. California’s majority party continues to raise costs and then blames everyone else for the affordability crisis. nypost.com/2026/10/01/lifest…

In CA this November, there are 61 sales tax increases on the local ballots. Only 7 require a 2/3 vote to pass. The rest can pass with a SIMPLE MAJORITY vote -- so almost all will pass. In the past, most such increases required a 2/3 vote to pass. But an insane ruling by the rapidly progressive CA Supreme Court decided that if a labor union puts a tax increase on the ballot by paying for signature gathering with labor union dues, only a 50%+ voting majority is needed to pass.

Amazing.. I just found out that both a Democrat and a Republican separately proposed new laws in California to make it easier to get squatters out of properties and neither of them advanced. For some bizarre reason the left elected morons in the state legislature would rather protect squatters than property owners.

💸 As of tomorrow, Los Angeles County will have the nation's highest sales tax rates, with some cities as high as 11.75% sales tax. Because they don't already have enough money with 14.4% income tax, high property/gas/utility taxes. Highest taxes in the POOREST cities - Palmdale & Lancaster, 16% poverty rates in these desert communities. Now paying 11.75% tax on everything they purchase. I moved to CA in 2013 from New Hampshire, which had 0% sales/income tax, nearly 0 gas tax & vehicle registration fees, but which had next to zero crime, great roads/schools. Why? Because they don't openly STEAL the money. They don't give drug addicted and/or lazy "homeless" people $2 MILLION beachfront condos for life (including all utilities AND HIGH END groceries from stores I won't even step foot in like Bristol Farms)! Unless something changes immediately, California will soon become a state for the extremely rich & the extremely poor, with no middle class to speak of. And once the remaining extremely rich are driven out by taxes to pay for all the extremely poor, it'll become a failed state as there'll be no one left to pay the high taxes.
Santa Monica 11.25% Sales Tax Tomorrow, Oct 1, Santa Monica's sales tax hits 11.25%, the highest in the region. That's a half-cent hike from Measure ER, passed by LA County voters in June. For a typical middle-income household spending around $20,000 a year on taxable goods, dining out, gas, clothes, household items, entertainment, that's about $2,250 a year in sales tax alone. Roughly $188 a month. And this comes on top of the city's own increases over the last 4 years. Water up 20%. Trash up 11% a year. Parking permits nearly doubled, while parking at the promenade has also increased. The city says it's for services. But when every bill, every meter, and every receipt goes up at once, families feel it. They deserve a council that asks whether we're getting value before we ask for more. Santa Monica residents deserve to know exactly where every dollar goes. No more blank checks. No more vague promises. We need real transparency, real audits, and real consequences when money is wasted. That's the accountability our city is missing. Affordability means keeping money in your pocket and letting you decide how to spend it. That's what I'm fighting for as your candidate for Santa Monica City Council. AI makes it really easy to find the SEC bias. We’ve barely started conference play, so schedules have not been that different. Look how many undefeated and 1-loss teams are ranked and not ranked by conference 🤦‍♂️

If you ever needed a stark reminder of how far FSU has fallen behind the national elites under this staff (where we belong and once were), this is it. The staff is answering for, and apologizing for, not being able to get the depth players reps against an FCS team because they couldn't put the game away. Meanwhile, Kirby Smart has his guys getting reps during a TV timeout while blowing out an SEC opponent. In what world is this acceptable?

Expanding the playoffs isn't going to kill the regular season. You know what will? Immediately rewarding teams for "good losses" which is all the rage right now. Sports are about winning and losing. Winning = Good Losing = Bad
