💎 Diamond in the Rough? 💎
One player I’m really excited to watch this season is TreVeyon Henderson.
As a rookie, Henderson rushed for 911 yards, averaged 5.1 yards per carry, scored 9 rushing touchdowns, and added 35 catches out of the backfield. The production was impressive, but I still think there’s another level he can reach.
There were times where he seemed a little hesitant pressing the hole, but when he trusted his read, hit the hole decisively, and got north-south, he looked like a rocket. The burst, acceleration, and big-play ability were obvious.
What’s interesting is that Henderson’s college production often gets overlooked because he shared carries. At Ohio State, he averaged 7.1 yards per carry for his career. For comparison, Ashton Jeanty averaged 6.4 yards per carry in college, while Quinshon Judkins averaged 5.7 yards per carry. That’s not to say Henderson is better than Jeanty—I have a ton of respect for Jeanty as a true three-down back—but Henderson’s production and efficiency were right there with anyone in the country.
The difference is Henderson spent much of his college career splitting touches, while other backs carried a larger workload. From what I’ve seen, he has every bit of the explosiveness and playmaking ability to become a special player.
If he’s improved his receiving game this offseason and with an improved offensive line in front of him, Year 2 could be a big leap.
I think we’re only scratching the surface of what he can become.
