A small observation on streamslob Squid games is very bad. It's a very bad show. It's Incoherent, pointless torture porn for normies: it's not actually that grotesque or shocking, and the actual violence and torture porn not actually that violent or pornographic. Entry-level. Shallow. But, in a way that makes it all the worse. The show is about evil rich people creating a murder torture show for their own beastial amusement. However this is a sleight of hand, and is merely a vehicle for the audience - poor people - to *excuse their own feelings of guilt for indulging in perverse sadism*, by creating in the narrative, a hated Other we can project our feelings onto. It is only "about" "rich people" and "capitalism", *because *, the actual audience of poor people cannot look themselves in the eye. People have said of capitalism that it internalised it's own critique and sells it back to you as a product. That's not exactly what's happening here. Rather, the show, the Entertainment, internalises the audiences guilt for watching it, the Entertainment is it's own excuse. In the real world, rich people don't watch the squid games. Poor people watch the squid games. But in the fantasy world of the movie, only evil rich people get their rocks off by watching people struggle and die, in games that are intentionally unfair and random, and little more than gambling. Rich people buy yachts and staff them with experts and study ocean wildlife, or try to cure diseases and accidentally end up sterilising entire Indian cities or destroying biomes or making children's knees grow backwards. They are out doing stuff, sometimes retarded stuff that goes wrong or is counter productive, but they are not watching squid games. Normies and poor people are. The colloseum, the famous bread and circuses, weren't for the upper classes. It was for the vulgar unwashed masses. When the "evil rich vips" are introduced in the show, they don't actually act anything like rich people. They act slovenly, disgustingly, they are fat and crude and vulgar, and we are supposed to say, oooh those evil rich people, they are so bad because they are HYPOCRITES. they think they are fancy but they are just disgusting pigs just like us! They are only superficially "rich", they are dressed in rich costumes, but they behave no differently from a fat slob poor caricature who is watching the sportsball on his couch in a fat wifebeater. It's pure projection, and the success and efficiency of things like this and white lotus is in the way the Product, the Entertainment, internalises and excuses it's own pettiness and vulgarity to the actual intended audience. It is specifically designed as suppressing conciousness and awareness, as opposed to art historically which was conciousness-raising. We are living in an age of anti-art, which we don't yet have a concept of vocabulary for, except the popular slang words of "slob". Put in a historical perspective, it is a radical departure from what art has been. It us not actually a subgenre within the umbrella term "art", but directly opposed to it. It is mind numbing rather than stimulating, stupifying and enabling the worst in people, rather than causing introspection and a raise in awareness/conciousness. Slob is not neutral, there is no neutral concumption of it, no more than there is a neutral consumption of any drug. No free lunch, at the absolute very best there's a hangover. This stuff is actively making you a worse person, even if you watch it critically, to make fun of it, even if you exorcise it by writing a long post about it on xitter.
