Ferris Bueller isn’t the hero of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Cameron is. Ferris finishes the movie exactly where he started. Cameron is the only one who actually changes.

There's a theory that Ferris Bueller didn't really exist at all in the film. He was a spirit guiding Cameron to growth and a new beginning. Cameron was destined to become Mr. Rooney. Ferris helped him save himself from that future.

Looked at through another lens, he is the hero because he resists changing to meet the demands of the adults around him. He refuses change..."If I'm gonna get caught it's not gonna be by a guy like that."

There's a fan theory that Ferris never existed. He was made up as a way to deal with the abuse from his father.

When Ferris goes to university, Cameron's gonna spend some time with Sloan. Remember, she didn't mind him seeing her change clothes by the Jacuzzi.

I always thought Charlie Sheen's character was the hero. He's the only one that cracked Jeanie Bueller.

Just like Mary Poppins is really about the dad. I realized this in a tender way when I watched with my kids a few days after a job ended badly. It's my go-to to share with anyone, especially a man, that is unexpectedly unemployed.

Everyone likes Ferris Bueller because they think they’re Ferris But the movie is actually about Cameron At some point you realize, most people in life are Cameron and you probably are too 🤔

Jeannie doesn't change? Ferris is the center of gravity. Like Hugo or Almost Famous...

This plays well into the fan theory that Ferris was dead the whole time.

Growing up i was more Cameron and my best friend was Ferris always getting us into trouble. "Hey, let's ride our bikes 5 miles to the movie theater. We'll be fine." 😬😬

Sorry, but Cameron dies shortly after his dad comes home and discovers his Ferrari destroyed. Father gets off on a "termporary insanity" plea.

So Axel isn’t the hero of Beverly Hills Cop and The Dude isn’t the hero of Big Lebowski and James Bond isn’t the hero of his movies and the man with no name isn’t the hero of his spaghetti westerns and Snake Plisskin isn’t the hero of Escape From New York

Ferris flunks out of NIU after his sophomore year. He eventually has a nice career as a liquor salesman in the northwest suburbs. Now days he’s pissed off at the possibility of the Bears moving to Hammond since it’s so far from his home in Barrington.

Ferris was just the proto-Tyler Durden

Disagree. Ferris learned to care about his future and saw that high school was necessary to get there

Ferris is the one who rescues Cameron by taking him out on his adventure. Ferris is the hero; Cameron learned to stand up for himself, which isn't by itself heroic.

That tells you what the story is about, not who the hero is.

There's nothing "heroic" about being forced to change, by accident. He didnt want to stop being a punk bitch.

A hero is defined by the positive impact and change they bring to a world or narrative, rather than by their moral perfection or survival.
