Among the olive groves of rural Idlib, local farmers are working to turn Syria’s agricultural heritage into a source of sustainable livelihoods. As part of its visit to Syria, HCI visited an olive oil production cooperative led by one of its local partners. The initiative supports local producers and helps strengthen the agricultural sector, creating economic opportunities for communities working to recover after years of conflict. Agriculture is essential to Syria’s recovery. It provides more than food security. It offers livelihoods, local economies and long-term resilience.

In October, HCI was proud to participate in the Canadian Parliamentary Humanitarian Delegation to Syria, alongside eight Members of Parliament and representatives of Canadian humanitarian organizations. The visit provided an opportunity to witness the humanitarian needs facing communities, learn about recovery efforts on the ground, and see how Canadian organizations are working alongside local partners to support the Syrian people. Syria’s recovery will take sustained commitment and collaboration. HCI remains dedicated to standing with Syrians as they rebuild their communities, restore essential services, and work toward a future of dignity, stability and opportunity. We are grateful to the parliamentarians and humanitarian organizations who joined this important effort.

HCI is proud to have joined the Canadian Parliamentary Humanitarian Delegation to Syria alongside @GregFergus, @Iqra Khalid, @SalmaZahid @SameerZuberi, @AslamRana,  @JacquesRamsay, @AbdelhaqSari, and  @MarcusPowlowski and to share the work we’re doing on the ground. In Daraya, a Damascus suburb deeply affected by years of conflict, delegates visited an HCI-supported vocational training project where women are building skills in data management, graphic design and more. Graduates receive a grant to put those skills to work and pursue income-generating opportunities. HCI is helping women take real steps toward financial independence. Recovery is more than rebuilding infrastructure. It’s about giving women the opportunity to build their livelihoods and shape their own futures. #Syria #WomenEmpowerment #HumanConcernInternational #Canada

Displaced families can only come home when there’s a roof over their heads and a livelihood waiting for them. HCI is committed to rebuilding homes. This week HCI met Mr. Basel Al-Deiri, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, and Maher AlKhalouf, Deputy Minister of Housing, to discuss how community-led farming and safe housing can support Syria’s recovery. HCI looks forward to implementing innovative projects that empower Syrian farmers in their prosperity and sustainability.

HCI and its donors are committed to standing with the Syrian people through recovery and beyond. We’re here for the long road ahead.
