The government’s youth inactivity adviser called Disability News Service’s editor a f***ing w**ker after being challenged about his failure to discuss the safeguarding risks involved in forcing tens of thousands of young disabled people into employment.

An NHS England report on whistleblowing has revealed serious problems:
- Individuals brought into NHS England “without any formal process”
- "Bullying, harassment, or psychological abuse” from managers
- Concerns about "adherence to HR policies"

Punchy meeting of NHS England's board today - sounding alarm on merger, internal cultural, slow pace of digital change, less than six months out from its abolition
For those outside Scotland this is how free personal care (introduced by Labour/Lib Dems in 2002) works. It doesn’t cover by far the most expensive element of residential care, ie accommodation and living costs. I know of people paying upwards of £10,000 a month for their parent’s residential care costs.

More detail on this: Andy Burnham's new National Care Service will cover personal care costs - as per the Scottish system - but not residential element of staying in a care home.
Yvette Cooper says Labour will "start to build" foundations of national care service now, ahead of Casey review.
- New unpaid carers champion
- Minimum pay and conditions for care workers
- Workforce plan for social care
- Pension scheme for care staff
Pledges a public health approach to violence against women and girls. £50m for new specialist referral services from GPs for victims of domestic violence
South Yorkshire mayor Oliver Coppard yday on delays over ministerial approval for the patch's new deputy mayor for health & ICB chair
"He's selected and chosen, but we've got to get a piece of paper signed off by the NHS, by the Secretary of State, who is taking her time"
Is it free care? Or free personal care? They're very different, as my colleague Natasha points out over at another place: nuffieldtrust.org.uk/news-it…
Government sources clarifying that Burnham's new National Care Service will cover personal care costs, but not the residential element of staying in a care home
The NHS Alliance introducing a note of caution about (optimistic) claims that care reform will save NHS serious money.
And it's far from clear that reforming social care will lead to lower delayed discharges in hospitals
Interesting lines on social care reform from Andy Burnham (focused seemingly on older people)
Says it will be free at point of use but also that "no care charges paid out of your basic state pension"
The latter implying some will face care charges, albeit not at point of use
This is alarming: when Burnham was asked on LBC if his proposals included disabled children, he replied: “No. This is adult and particularly older people’s social care.”
So he is not really fixing social care for everyone...

Health minister Karin Smyth distinctly unenthusiastic about keeping Healthwatch at Labour conference.
Says there is 'too much outsourcing of responsibility' to outside bodies.
Govt has committed to retaining some form of independent patient voice but unclear what this will mean
