I recall a friend taking her kids to see Brave when it came out. I asked her what she thought of it and she said (paraphrasing) "the movie was good, they just forgot to put a villain in it!" I'm always reminded of that when I see clips like this one shared around.
The witch doesn't really fit as the villain—she gives Merida the proverbial rope to hang herself with, but that's about it. Maybe it's the mother, but she's got Merida's best interests at heart and knows better, besides. Or maybe Merida's both the protagonist and the villain, that'd be a twist, but I think she spends too much of the movie trying to make up for her mistake for that to apply, either.
Brave feels like a film that needed more time to cook. As-is, it's fine, you can watch and enjoy parts of it...but you can also eat boiled steak if you're hungry enough.
THIS SCENE WAS SO SATISFYING TO WATCH
