Evidence on the harmful cognitive effects of TikTok, Reels, and other short form video keeps growing. It's not just the content, it's the attention fragmentation and the declining ability to plan for the future. From @juliejargon wsj.com/tech/personal-tech/t…

An unexpected and potentially big finding: A single mitochondrial protein has an outsized role, acting as a central node, coordinating our circadian clock, temperature, dietary cues, sleep/wake cycle to control brown fat metabolism @ScienceMagazine science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…

The Make it or Break it moment when you build a new HABIT. This is what will decide whether you will be successful or not. Your brain rewires itself through repetition, so what you do regularly becomes your default pattern and behaviour. What you repeat consistently becomes your life. Once a behaviour is ingrained in your neural patterns, it becomes your default mechanism. And when you start a new habit, especially at the beginning, it is very easy to fall back into the old one, especially when you are under STRESS. This is not a lack of discipline or WILLPOWER. It's not a character flaw. It's how your brain is designed to work. 👉 This is where good intentions fail: You have been on your good behaviour all week, eating healthy food and going to the gym, then at the weekend you go out to eat and drink a lot, and maybe cannot go to the gym for a few days because you are too busy at work. And all of a sudden you feel like a failure; you think you don't have enough discipline, that you are not good enough, and that you have ruined your perfect plan. And maybe you have a binge. Now this is the make it or break it moment. It's what you do after that binge or AFTER that weekend out when you have indulged, or after that evening when you have eaten the whole packet of chocolate cookies. Stop feeling guilty. It's not you; it's how you are designed to work. It's just that your old pattern was so ingrained in your brain that it was more powerful than the new habit you were trying to build when the trigger came along. I have this analogy I use with my clients.. It's like learning to ride a bike. You hit a bump on the road, and you fell off the bike. You just need to get back on that bike and carry on. You will get better with time. Sometimes creating a new habit is a journey of hitting a bump on the road and getting back on the bike. It might take a little longer, but it will take you there as long as there is enough REPETITION. Now, some people get a bit lost along the journey and need some form of support along the way, especially when unhelpful habits are wired for a long time, or if they have tried many things that did not work for them. Sometimes you need to steer the wheel in another direction or find better ways to build that habit. If you want to build a better habit, I have some availability in October. I work with only a few people at a time to guarantee better support. Feel free to get in touch to learn more about my approach and tell me more about your challenges.
