What happens if nuclear reactors enter a conflict zone? Could they serve as strategic shields by complicating the adversary’s targeting calculus—or become liabilities that heighten escalation risks. As the nuclear industry once again grapples with the SMR euphoria, I argue that governance must get ahead of deployment, in my latest for @WarOnTheRocks warontherocks.com/sitting-du…

My op-ed in @the_hindu newspaper this morning, on the leadership deficit in the military. "There is something gravely flawed with our leadership training. Many young officers start out as gallant captains and majors. Why then, when they become generals, admirals and air marshals do so many fail to seize the moment?" thehindu.com/opinion/op-ed/a…

The audio-video was switched off by court for a substantial part of the hearing As the matter came to a close, the audio-video was switched on, when Sr Adv Dr AM Singhvi and Menaka Guruswamy were seen present. Preservation of file notings and other records was sought. CJI Kant replied, "we know everything, we will examine".

The opaqueness of this government.
🚨EC cites “trade secrets and commercial confidence” to deny info about software used for SIR. It also says divulging information on who reviews flagged anomalies might “endanger” their lives. Reiterates that EROs remain the statutory authority to prepare rolls. @htTweets

The weapons used by the ITBP are 50-years old and modernisation is required, said ITBP D-G Shatrujeet Kapur, who is set to retire on October 31. Stressing on the need to invest and develop drone and counter-drone technology, the ITBP chief said that it may not be possible to face China through traditional methods as it has invested a lot in the modernisation of its weapons and infrastructure. “Drones are something through which a even a small country can challenge a big country We saw how Ukraine has challenged a superpower like Russia. The war was supposed to be over in few days, but 10,000 to 15,000 Russian soldiers are being killed, they are suffering. Look at Iran, how, without even a Navy, they, with the help of drones, challenged America,” he said. Read the full story in The Hindu- thehindu.com/news/national/f…

“Several face-offs”!
Told you so! ITBP DG Shatrujeet Singh Kapur confirms several face-offs between Chinese & Indian troops in Arunachal, including Taksing, which are still continuing. The face-offs were even taking place when Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Delhi for BRICS. #IndiaChinaBorderRow

China and India in a standoff at multiple locations along Arunachal border since July, India hosted Xi Jinping from Sep 11-13 for the BRICS summit. “In the past few-days, a situation arose where face-off happened at several locations in Arunachal and it still continues,” ITBP D-G Shatrujeet Kapur said on Thursday. This is the first official confirmation of the scale of the continuing tensions on the north-eastern border since July this year. Government sources told The Hindu that since late July, India and China have been engaged in a stand-off at Asaphila near Taksing in Arunachal Pradesh. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is said to have pitched tents at an elevation, within 6-7 kilometres of India’s perception of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) near Maja company operating base in Taksing circle of Upper Subansiri district, sources said. US Secy of State Rubio says that SRIA law for sanctions on Russian oil was not planned to "punish India". This is #Gaslighting101, given that the law was enacted a year after the US did impose 50% tariffs on India, doubled only because of its Russian oil imports.
SECRETARY RUBIO: None of these tariffs are done to punish or harm India. They're part of a broader foreign policy that unfortunately involves a war going on between Russia and Ukraine that we'd like to see come to an end.

Protests don't define the state of a democracy as much as the response of the government to the protests does.
Important: Here’s something that a LOT of people don’t know about what’s actually going on with Delhi Police. CJP’s Saurav Das & Ashutosh Ranka have been sent to 2 more days of judicial custody in Tihar Jail. By a judicial court? NO. They have been kept in Tihar Jail for the last 6 days on the order of a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM). Who is an SEM? He is an ACP-rank (junior) police officer of Delhi Police appointed by the state govt. Therefore, Delhi Police arrested Saurav & Ashutosh & now a Delhi Police ACP (acting as SEM) is keeping them in jail. There’s no FIR against them. There’s also no judicial order. Delhi Police are the accusers & well as the judge when it comes to keeping them in jail. That’s how messed up it is.
