@Buyside_Hub Founder. My newsletter @wallstrollup is read by 200k+ investors. Finance Memes & Satire.

New York, NY
My company @Buyside_Hub officially launched a year ago. Since then, we’ve become the one stop shop for PE, IB, Credit, HF, and overall Buyside & Sellside compensation. But it’s far more than that. We have a massive job board. An inside look at the culture of the firms you’re interviewing at. And we have a large hub of actual interview questions. All it takes is contributing to the platform to get full access for free. This year’s comp survey will be insane - make sure you join in advance of that

What is worse, blurred out bf or appearing just on slide 10 in a 12 slide photo dump
Instagram now lets you blur people in your stories to help ‘soft launch’ a relationship The new AI tool lets you choose exactly how pixelated they are

We need to raise rates because my For You feed is becoming full of grandiose declarations and advice from early-20-somethings. Juniors largely lack context & reps until 26, but I find that every year is a cycle "wow I knew so little 2 years ago" & so on and so forth.

mainly a critique the early 20s SF/YC archetype who confuses funding with innate business acumen + execution (and the ability to survive long term). But posts calling Wall Street MDs dumb, or not understanding why thorough & repetitive diligence is needed are ridiculous.

Totally get it, it’s hard to be a MD now a days now that Associates get all the carry

The NYT has a terrible tv show rankings list going around; comparing apples to oranges. So here’s actual rankings: 1) The Wire 2) Breaking Bad 3) The Sopranos 4) Better Call Saul 5) Mad Men 6) Succession 7) Boardwalk Empire 8) The Shield Rationale in that thread
My personal drama rankings 1) The Wire 2) Breaking Bad 3) The Sopranos 4) Better Call Saul 5) Mad Men 6) Succession 7) Boardwalk Empire 8) The Shield Doesn’t count one-offs like Season 1 of True Detective or mini-series. Those should probably be standalone lists. Obvs ppl can disagree, it’s a free country, this is just where I shook out. Theres alot of shows that had some great seasons but couldn’t stick landing or had falloff seasons - GoT, Dexter, Ozark etc. And no I don’t think alot of FX shows came close to HBO shows at all

Getting a lot of inbound on this, if you're a U.S. student who wants access, your school will buy it for you via a student plan. Reach out to me or @Buyside_Hub team.
We put together a 246 page investment banking recruiting guide. With how intense the IB process is getting, this focuses on what actually matters. You can grab it on @HYHNewsletter premium or on a @Buyside_Hub student plan.

I think there's going to be a lot of benefit to being one of the 1-3 PE Associates/VPs at your shop that can actually climb the ladder or are sharp enough to get poached. A lot of your competition is going the ETA route, trying to do AI, going back to banking, or taking a career break to go get an MBA. PE is a world of troughs and crests and not all PE shops are actual dead-ends - it just looks like a dead-end for a few years. Still, if you can leave finance and become a Brad Lightcap, then go do that.
