During World War II, Estelle Ishigo was one of the few white Americans incarcerated alongside Japanese Americans. After her Japanese American husband, Arthur Ishigo, was ordered to report to the Pomona Assembly Center following Executive Order 9066, Estelle faced a choice: remain in Los Angeles or go with him and accept the same restrictions as the prisoners. On May 10, 1942, she chose to stay with her husband and entered the camp.⁠ ⁠ The couple was later transferred to Heart Mountain in Wyoming, where Estelle documented camp life through charcoal drawings, pencil sketches and watercolors. ⁠ ⁠ She captured the harsh weather, families and children living behind barbed wire, and the daily reality of incarceration. She later wrote about her experiences in Lone Heart Mountain.⁠ ⁠ After the war, Estelle and Arthur returned to Los Angeles and struggled with poverty. Arthur died of cancer in 1957 at age 55. Decades later, filmmakers found Estelle living in difficult circumstances, and her life became the subject of Days of Waiting: The Life & Art of Estelle Ishigo.⁠ ⁠ The 1990 documentary won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject. Estelle died on February 25, 1990, at the age of 90.

I don’t understand who is going to invest in a $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran. The U.S. is not doing so, and why would the Qataris or any other country in the Middle East that was just attacked by Iran invest one penny to support Iran’s reconstruction? Most of the damage inflicted on Iran was directed to military targets. Why would anyone want to help Iran rebuild its military capabilities? Even if the funds were limited to humanitarian-related infrastructure, if there is such a thing, money is fungible, and we know the first freed up dollar will go to rebuild Iran’s ballistic and nuclear capabilities. What am I missing?

Until recently, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter were green card holders living lavishly in the United States. Afshar is the niece of deceased Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani. She is also an outspoken supporter of the Iranian regime who celebrated attacks on Americans and referred to our country as the "Great Satan." This week, I terminated both Afshar and her daughter's legal status and they are now in ICE custody, pending removal from the United States. The Trump Administration will not allow our country to become a home for foreign nationals who support anti-American terrorist regimes.

Iranian authorities confirmed the execution of political prisoners Babak Alipour and Pouya Ghobadi on Tuesday, a day after two other individuals connected to the same case were hanged. During proceedings in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court, eight defendants including two who were not sentenced to death denied all charges of armed rebellion against the state. Several defendants and their lawyers told the court that their confessions had been obtained under torture and other forms of mistreatment. Pouya Ghobadi was also given an additional prison sentence for attempting to leave the country. The U.S. Army has launched an investigation after a military helicopter was spotted flying at low altitude near Kid Rock’s Nashville home on Saturday, according to Reuters. In 1974, Daphne Sheldrick achieved something that had eluded conservationists for nearly 30 years she found a way to keep orphaned infant elephants alive. Elephant milk is incredibly complex, and without it, survival seemed almost impossible. Every orphaned calf faced the same fate. Daphne refused to accept that. Working in Kenya, she dedicated herself to understanding what these elephants truly needed—not just physically, but emotionally. She spent years experimenting with different milk formulas, adjusting ingredients over and over again, determined to replicate what nature had perfected. After countless failed attempts, she finally discovered the missing piece: a formula that worked, with coconut oil playing a critical role. For the first time, orphaned calves began to survive. But Daphne’s work went far beyond nutrition. She realized baby elephants needed constant care, affection, and companionship just like human children.
