A window into global geo-politics, from Flushing Meadows this past weekend.
The US Open was dominated by players with Russian and Soviet roots. Almost none of them played under a Russian flag, another sign of the country's declining influence. Tennis and the decline of Russian soft power | Daniel Peris (@HistoryInvestor) engelsbergideas.com/notebook…

A $5.5 t rev business losing money hand over fist ($2 t this fy), and sitting on $40 t in debt does not & cannot pay a dividend. Divs are paid from recurring profits not needed for future investment. However, if you want to see the 10-year well above 6%, this is a great idea.

The return of normal rates (10-y at ~5% has been hiding in plain sight for a while. Shocked to see folks shocked that it is actually happening.
Each of these quotes is from the JANUARY 2026 Barron's Roundtable (8 months ago)... “I have the same concerns as the rest of you, and if the 10-year Treasury yield breaks 5%, the stock market will struggle.” – Henry Ellenbogen “Clearly, the market is paying attention to inflation and the fiscal outlook. The 10-year Treasury yield could scale 4.50% this year, and approach 5% with significant further fiscal expansion.” – Sonal Desai “My worries and wild cards for the economy and stocks include a soft labor market, higher inflation, and a higher 10-year Treasury yield.” – Mario Gabelli “the 10-year yield may climb to 4.5% to 5%.” – Mario Gabelli “Who is going to fund long-term bonds? If the 10-year yield goes up to 4.5% to 5%, does that change the ballgame for the equity market?” – Scott Black (Not investment advice).

Also on one of those boats, with my wife. Exactly as you described it.
I was on one of those boats being evacuated from my office at the World Trade Center. The operation revealed New Yorkers at their finest. No pushing, no shoving, many acts of kindness. Women and children first. It was so inspiring I left any fear behind. Everyone I saw did what they were supposed to do.

Yes, in our writings, he & I are both speaking "our books of business." That is certainly the case. It is also the case, that in articulating our philosophy toward investment(& David's towards life), we are attempting to provide readers with a useful signal, amidst all the noise.

David is also competitor, once removed (he serves investors directly; I work mostly with the platforms), but it is an amicable competition. And I am flattered that he calls me out several times in the text. Coming to a bookstore near you later this month.

This excellent article by Daniel Peris includes highly informative account of how the evolving stock market has caused style indexes to cease to serve the purposes for which they were designed. danielxperis.substack.com/p/…

Having an industrial policy is one thing; bankrolling profitable businesses thru ded int on l-t debt is something else. A 1921 tax-code quirk has hardened into a cornerstone of the US financial system that makes little sense. Forthcomng @AmericanAffrs bloomberg.com/news/articles/…?
