The Adventure Shack & Rentals at Centennial Park is open 11am-7pm this weekend, including Labor Day Monday (weather permitting)! Spend some time on the lake for the official end of summer in a canoe, kayak or paddleboat and reward your efforts with a hot dog or some ice cream!

It's a bears world. W/ recent reports of bear sightings across #HoCoMD & MD, it is important to remember these key tips from @MarylandDNR on what to do if you stumble across a black bear:
1) Don't panic & don't approach;
2) Make the bear aware of your presence by talking in a firm voice;
3) Ensure the bear has an escape route by giving it plenty of space; &
4) If your pets are outside, either bring them indoors or move them away from the bear.

.@HoCoRec is reminding #HoCoMD park goers that its 8 regional parks (Blandair, Centennial, Cedar Lane, Rockburn, Savage, Schooley Mill, Troy, & Western) are equipped w/ an outdoor lightning alert system. Anytime a system senses lightning w/in 10 miles of its designated park, the system's horn & light go off for 15-sec, notifying park visitors that all in-park activities, incl' games & practices, must immediately cease & shelter sought. Once lightning is no longer a threat, the horn will sound in 3 5-sec bursts to alert visitors that activities may resume. (2/3)

JULY 4TH UPDATE: Due to the National Weather Service’s Extreme Heat Warning for Howard County and the risk of high heat index values, the Howard County July 4th celebration will begin two hours later than originally scheduled. The festivities will now kick off at 7:00 pm.
