Support continues for communities affected by the 24 June earthquakes in Venezuela. Through its latest distribution in Las Salinas, the Venezuelan Red Cross @CruzRojaVe reached more than 900 families with hygiene kits and essential supplies, bringing the total number of families assisted to 4,000. At #UNGA81, the @IFRC will highlight a simple but essential message: pandemic preparedness begins in communities. It means investing before crises strike, strengthening local health systems, and ensuring trusted community responders are equipped and protected. The Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo shows why community engagement is critical. DRC Red Cross volunteers are building trust, addressing misinformation, helping people access care, and conducting safe and dignified burials to help stop transmission. Outbreaks start and end in communities. Preparedness must begin there.

In Zaporizhzhia, @RedCrossUkraine teams responded following strikes that sparked 17 fires and damaged residential buildings, a shopping center and an educational facility, searching the area for victims, providing first aid and psychological support and distributing humanitarian aid to residents whose homes were damaged. In Dnipro, volunteers responded to an attack on a shopping center, conducting area searches and providing first aid and psychological support. In Sumy, teams carried out house-to-house checks after a strike on a residential building, providing first aid and psychological support to those affected. In Odesa, volunteers searched the affected area to identify victims, provided first aid and psychological support and distributed humanitarian aid to residents whose homes were damaged.

Humanitarian personnel, including volunteers, must be able to help people safely. At #UNGA81 in New York, the @IFRC is calling on governments and partners to strengthen the protection of those responding to crises, including local Red Cross and Red Crescent staff and volunteers. Led by Secretary General @jagan_chapagain, our delegation is bringing this priority to discussions throughout High-Level Week. Protecting humanitarians helps ensure communities can receive the support they need.

"What will happen to us?" That was the question 67-year-old Jafor Ahmod asked when he arrived in the displacement camps in Bangladesh nine years ago. For nine years, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (@BDRCS1) and the @IFRC have stood alongside Rohingya people and host communities, providing essential services, strengthening resilience, and supporting dignity in the face of ongoing challenges. After Cyclone Maila damaged Tuma Volo’s home, Solomon Islands Red Cross volunteers provided a tarpaulin, relief supplies and practical shelter support.
