Thousands were killed and afterwards Colmcille left Ireland for Iona in self-imposed exile.
The book, the Cathach, is preserved by @RIAdawson and its shrine is in the National Museum of Ireland.

King Diarmaid famously ruled “le gach boi[n] a liog 7 le gach leabhar a leabharan” (to every cow its calf, to every book its copy) and ordered Colmcille to give the copy to Finnian.
Colmcille refused and led an army into battle in Cúil Dreimhne, Co Sligo.

Did You Know?
Perhaps the oldest recorded copyright dispute occurred in Ireland in the 6th century between two monks. St Colmcille was a student of St Finnian and secretly copied Finnian’s book of psalms.
When Finnian learned of this, he appealed to the High King of Ireland.
