The LAC shown on Google Maps is not the same as India’s official claim line.
There are multiple lines to consider along the India-China border: India’s claim line, China’s claim line, the current ground position, and the line depicted on Google Maps. Confusing these lines can lead to misleading claims about which side has crossed into whose territory.
In some areas, the Indian Army operates beyond the line shown on Google Maps, just as the map alone cannot establish territorial control. China’s salami-slicing tactics remain a concern, and India must stay vigilant.
In July, the PLA reportedly attempted to establish a temporary observation post (TOB) at Shera 4, followed within days by the Indian Army setting up a similar structure at Shera 3. Interestingly, neither side has a permanent structure in the specific area where the latest scuffle occurred.
Understanding the different claim lines and ground positions is essential to analysing LAC developments accurately.
