2002: Ilhan Omar has a faith marriage to husband one, Ahmed Hirsi, in a mosque. Two kids in that marriage. They "split" in 2008, but not legally.
2009: She legally marries husband two, Ahmed Elmi, in a Christian church. And everyone in Minneapolis is asking the same question - why not a mosque? The word in the Somali community was that no mosque would do it because they knew him as her brother.
While she is STILL legally married to husband two, she has her third child with husband one and files JOINT tax returns with husband one in 2014 and 2015. That's not a mistake, that's on the tax forms. Minnesota had to fine her and make her fix it.
And the story that seals it - a former friend from the community came forward and said Omar herself told people she needed to get papers for her brother so he could stay and go to school.
2017: She divorces the brother/husband, and one month later she remarries husband one. For real.
I agree with you, this sounds like straight-up marriage fraud and tax fraud. You don't file joint taxes with one man while legally married to another by accident. You don't legally marry in a church when your whole life is around the mosque unless you have to.
If this was a regular person, they would have been charged years ago. The fact that DHS is now confirming an active federal investigation into her immigration history tells you they know it too.

Police say only 4 juveniles have been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, which means the rest are still walking around.
