Look at him, thats my Qual. Your what? My Qualitative! My vibe specialist. Look at him, you notice anything different about him? Look at his face. I'll give you a hint, his name is Jayden. He won a local poetry competition in bushwick! Yeah I'm sure of the vibe.
Quant firms are hiring idea guys, not quants I've been skeptical about the whole - software is commoditized, ideas are the moat argument But I've seen first hand the best quant and technical firms in the world hire thinkers, liberal arts grads, and generalists I predict the trend accelerates Letter from @AQRCapital below

Discovery hack from Ian Pilon: ask customers for 20 minutes. Block 50. When it's flowing: "this flew by, got 5 more minutes?" Most say yes. You've shown you respect their time. That's what earns the second call.

Four voice AI talks from the AI Engineer World's Fair. All under 15 minutes. 36 minutes total. That's less than your commute, and more useful than most of what's in your feed this week. Here's what to watch, in the order I'd watch them. 1. Your Voice Agent Doesn't Need a Frontier Model Joel Allou and Ornella Bahidika, Microsoft. 6 min. The one to start with. Most teams reach for the biggest model by default. In voice, every millisecond of that choice is dead air on a phone line. 2. Don't Let the LLM Drive Same speakers, Microsoft. 6 min. Watch it straight after the first. Same team, the other half of the argument: what the model should decide, and what it never should. Twelve minutes in, you'll already have changed how you think about your stack. 3. Voice In, Visuals Out: The Agony and the Ecstasy Allen Pike. 13 min. Voice agents that also show you something. The title promises both the good and the painful parts, which is exactly what you want from a talk like this. 4. Every Solo Agent Builder Eventually Reinvents a Worse Version of CI/CD Sumaiya Shrabony. 11 min. Not voice-specific. Watch it anyway. If you ship agents alone, you are already building this badly. Better to hear it now than discover it at 2am. Why these four together: Two on what the model should and shouldn't do. One on what voice looks like beyond audio. One on how you ship without breaking things. That's the whole job, in 36 minutes. Full list, filtered to speech and audio, under 15 min: ai.engineer/talks?topic=spee… Which one are you starting with?

100% and why Forward Deployed Engineering compounds in value, those who are clostest to the customer win. Intent comes from understanding customer goals. Learn FDE to stay relevant or die.
“People are working 12 to 13 hours a day just to press enter.” We are turning an entire generation of technical experts around the world into the equivalent of retirees pushing a button in front of casino slot machines. Essentially the brain rot of doom scrolling social media is coming for your development team… This will have lots of long run implications on companies. Most important of which, is that it will make existing moats even more brittle. The value of automated software is not making the software faster. It is understanding your intention and making the software BETTER. Better edge. Better design. Better alpha. But if you don’t slow down and map out your intention, you will just make your shitty code faster. We built 8090’s Software Factory to do this: when execution is a costless commodity, what really matters? Over time, companies will realize that it’s: 1. Intention 2. Governance 3. Verification 4. Evidence This is what will separate orgs consuming tokens and companies encoding their edge. This generally requires top down leadership from the CEO to the CFO/CIO. Bottoms up tool adoption only increases costs and accelerates slot machine behaviors. Good luck to all the players.

Why do people associate intelligence with hard science only? Why are only adults considered intelligent? If you ask me, any photo with the same number of babies is way more intelligent. What the current education system does to them is another question.

Listen, I get why it's fun, but clowning on people who clearly only entered the AI scene post-o1 because they don't understand what Jev is doing, and are instead being introduced to a fundamentally awesome concept through a very well designed jeveloper experience is cringe imo let the people play and imagine what is possible - we need more of them

love jev, but upset it - isn't open source? - it lack vision capability? We fixed all of that, introducing SimpleJev.ai A fully open source library which takes any HF model and Jev-ify it, with an API endpoint Now on github, and live in production at @FeatherlessAI

So excited to work with the team at Maple on this. It's been almost 3 decades since I started my career there! Adding Maple's capabilities to Primus will make it so much more powerful for many scientific fields (including Quantum Mechanics, which we launched last week!)
Big update: Primus for Math is live today. It’s an autonomous AI research scientist specifically for mathematics and engineering. We built it in partnership with Maplesoft to make frontier AI mathematics research systems accessible to everyone, not just a few frontier closed companies. Primus for Math is a true partner for math researchers and engineers. Give it a problem and it reads the field, works through the analysis in Maple's math engine, simulates the system, proves what it can and shows its work at every step for you to understand and build on. It also changes who gets to do this kind of work. Now a physicist with a math question, an engineer working outside their field, a two-person lab can do the work themselves as Primus brings the field's literature, methods and rigor to the project. Maplesoft has been an ideal partner to collaborate with. During the beta, they’re generously offering Maple access for every Primus for Math user at no additional cost. And we're offering free credits to Primus if you sign up now.
