TOTALLY agree. Unless the other party starts saying things like "Your 3rd-gen Asian and West African colleagues are foreigners - and you might be too, mischling!" or "Your citizen wife should no longer have the right to vote." Then comes a time of choosing in a later hour, to talk Tolkien/Groyper. Best to avoid that sort of thing, eh?
Want to know what radicalized me? We have two political parties. One thinks sentences like: “The Somali gang member who shot two people outside a high school football game in suburban Minneapolis has been released on bail” are perfectly reasonable. The other doesn’t. One party wants to open our borders to millions more people from economically disadvantaged, culturally misaligned countries like Somalia. The other doesn’t. One party’s 2024 presidential candidate supports ending cash bail. She even sponsored legislation to get rid of it nationwide. To quote her: “End money bail. Our bail system is unjust and broken.” The other doesn’t. One party’s most prominent member of Congress advocates for abolishing prisons (looking your way, AOC!). “I want to abolish our carceral system that’s designed to trap Black and Brown men.” The other doesn’t. We all have to choose. Politics is now a zero-sum, winner-take-all game. That wasn’t always the case, and I wish it weren’t the case now, but it is. I didn’t make the rules. So I’ve chosen. Like it or not, you’re going to have to choose too.

Exactly this, the progressive went crazy in the early to mid part of the last decade. All the gop has to do is stay mostly normal at the national level.
