This is so painful to watch. I never understood central banking, but I used to think they know what they’re doing, or at least can fake it effectively.

The network effect is the big one. But.. Where is this fighting for a better Bitcoin right now? Which forces are pushing back? Development and mining, very centralized control of both. How will this be turned around? Especially seeing how gleefully the miner decided win over 110 was celebrated by Saylor and the other suits. I will be holding both, but my energy and enthusiasm will go towards the Blake2b chain. Because it represents the idea I’m here for best.

“BCH. BSV. Fork. Shitcoin. We’ve seen this before” There is a term for this… a thought-terminating cliché. You take a complicated question, attach a familiar label to it, and suddenly the label becomes the answer. I like calling these manipulations out because once they’re named, the spell breaks and they lose their power. There is a whole feedback loop at play that turns a historical precedent into a substitute for thinking. Once the label is accepted, you no longer have to ask why this fork exists, whether the incumbent changed, whether the threat model changed, or whether the comparison is structurally valid. All nuance gets ignored. “Shitcoin” is doing the work of both a genetic fallacy and poisoning the well. BCH failed. BSV failed. Bitcoin Gold failed. Therefore “forks fail.” But “it was a fork” is a category, not a causal explanation. Different circumstances get collapsed into one label and treated like a law. It’s an incredibly shallow inference, but repetition gives it power. I can manufacture an equally persuasive argument in the opposite direction.. Luke has saved Bitcoin many times: the 2013 chain split, SegWit’s soft-fork path, UASF against miner veto, the 2018 inflation bug…and he has spent 15 years finding problems most people notice only after they become crises. I could easily say: “Bitcoin’s guardian angel has saved Bitcoin many times before. Therefore he’s saving Bitcoin again now” Frankly, it has at least as much historical precedent behind it as “BCH failed, therefore this fork fails.” But it doesn’t prove anything. That’s the point. A false analogy gets repeated until it becomes familiar. Familiarity starts feeling like truth. Prominent people repeat it. Mockery attaches a social cost to questioning it. Fewer people seriously examine the new case, and fewer still are willing to defend it publicly. Eventually a contingent historical outcome starts feeling like a law of nature, and the fact that fewer people challenge it creates the appearance that everyone agrees. The social reaction can literally help manufacture the outcome that people later point to as proof it was inevitable. None of this requires centrally coordinated propaganda. These mechanisms arise organically in groups. But they can also be deliberately exploited through repetition, labeling, ridicule and status pressure, and I have watched it happen clear as day in Bitcoin. This is how social engineering happens. There are voices in this space whose practical role seems to be almost entirely narrative… establish the frame, repeat the labels, amplify the approved interpretation, ridicule the people outside it, and steer what people unconsciously accept.

To be clear, I don’t consider anything else than BTC to be Bitcoin. It’s the longest chain. I just have low confidence in its trajectory being compatible with separating money from state. It feels and looks broadly captured to me. I would love to be proven wrong. The POW chain coin will be a fork and should make a new brand/name/ticker based on its own merits and ideas. The ideas are imo very sound and I think it’s an important manifestation of decentralization, that ideals are defended and if necessary forked off for. I will follow it with interest.

Some say Jesus’ death on the cross was his greatest humiliation. I think Jesus’ greatest humiliation is having us, The Church, represent Him. Similarly, Satoshi’s Bitcoin was pure and beautiful, born of an immaculate conception, and gifted to the world. But as it gained popularity, it has been sullied by its increasing connection to us, the global marketplace. Yet Jesus can still be found within the Church, just as the pure idea of the Bitcoin thesis lives somewhere inside the marketplace that has sullied it. Maybe that’s sufficient.

Speaking your mind when it’s hard and uncomfortable is usually when it’s most important that you do it. When Craig Wright tried to silence people with legal threats. When the world lost its marbles during Covid. When Bitcoin lost its soul and decentralization through fiat capture. I will continue to do it.

To the BIP-110 community: Should I spend the 2,000,000 sats I have locked up on Braiins and Mining Rig Rentals on hashing on the BIP-110 chain, or is that just throwing away Bitcoin at this point?

The system is built to monetize you and extract your value. Bitcoin is now slowly dissolving into that same system. It will be a mechanism to steal your life force - your time, your talent and your energy - sadly under the banner of protecting your value from the state. The Bill of Rights contains concepts, tenets superseding all authority and to which you are deemed to be entitled. But as time has progressed, many Supreme Court decisions have neutered those rights - because the beneficiaries of those rights did not defend them. They became complacent. When a new law restricts your right to own/use firearms, or your right to speak freely without being silenced by the state, judges and detractors will use a myriad of decisions/rules to explain why you must acquiesce. Your rights are slowly neutralized and dissolved - the ethos and the entire purpose of that right, over time, is lost due to complacency and slavish acquiescence. Similarly, the ethos and purpose of bitcoin is being dissolved - the influencers and trolls talking about consensus and so forth are the same type of people who, when your door is kicked in and your dog is shot, explain that your right against unreasonable searches and seizures doesn’t actually apply - “look at this case where it says your right doesn’t apply in this instance.” At some point your inalienable right is alienable - it doesn’t exist anymore. Most of these people don’t identify with the ethos of protecting the individual from the state - with the concept that destroying centralized control of money is the best way to give people their freedom. They will dispose of the foundation, the ethos and the culture, because it doesn’t follow the rule. They most want to “be right”. If their intellects were lower they would be the lady at the DMV saying you can’t get a car title because your name left off your middle initial. They are high intellect bureaucrats who don’t identify with the deeper essence of Bitcoin. They justify their “rightness” by the rules, not the culture. Your rights don’t exist unless you spill blood to retain the essence from which they sprung. And the state will keep consuming those rights and herding you into a pack where it can sip from your life-source. The people that crowd into the state hate you - they luxuriate in your losses, similar to so many reactions you see from the people who hated BIP 110. Bitcoin is being herded into the same place now. It will become a crown jewel for monetizing the complacent and the ignorant. The high intellect macro bureaucrats and influencing hangers-on will cling like barnacles - getting their fill as well. I hope that there is a way forward - I don’t know what it is, but it is nice that there was an uprising of people who wanted to defend their value from capture by the parasites. There’s a lot of hope in that.
