Our next stop: The Nickel Plate Trail!

Opened in 2025, the Nickel Plate Trail spans 9.7 miles — and that’s just in Marion County! This expansive greenway runs from Hamilton County all the way to downtown Indianapolis near the State Fairgrounds.

Once an abandoned rail corridor, the Nickel Plate Trail now supports the active lifestyles of the 37,000 Marion County residents that live within a mile of it – including 6,000 seniors and 7,000 young people.

On top of that, there are 54,000 jobs and 15 K-12 schools that now benefit from a sustainable commute.
The Nickel Plate also links to commercial areas and trails near the fairgrounds, Castleton, and Hamilton County communities – including the Monon Trail and Fishers.
