45Z is a renewable fuels tax credit designed to promote lower carbon fuels. 🌱 ⛽ But its impact reaches far beyond the fuel tank. 45Z connects regenerative agriculture practices to ethanol production. Meet the Staff! We’re excited to welcome Emma Shields to the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association team as our Fall Intern! A native of Lamoni, Iowa, Emma is a senior at Simpson College studying Marketing Communications. Her passion for communications and storytelling has led her to write for The Simpsonian, Simpson’s student newspaper, and previously participate in the Iowa Corn CAT Team. During her time at IRFA, Emma will be working closely with the Drive Clean Iowa campaign, helping create social media content and outreach efforts aimed at educating young drivers about renewable fuels and the choices they make at the pump. She’ll also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across IRFA’s communications efforts and support the team on a variety of projects throughout the fall. “I’m excited to join the IRFA team and gain hands-on experience that will help me grow both personally and professionally. I’m especially looking forward to working with the Drive Clean Iowa campaign and connecting with young drivers about the importance of making safe and informed choices behind the wheel. I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from the IRFA team and put my communications skills to work throughout the fall!” We’re glad to have Emma on board and look forward to seeing all she brings to the team this fall! 🌽⛽🚗

IRFA is urging EPA to protect renewable fuels demand. EPA granted 29 refinery exemptions for the 2025 compliance year, putting nearly 1 billion gallons of renewable fuels demand at risk. At the end of the day, consumers are paying $.40-.60 less per gallon at the pump when they choose biofuels. It’s domestically produced, burns cleaner, supports our farmers and rural communities, and lowers gas prices. That’s a win-win-win, and it just makes sense. We must ensure all exempted gallons are reallocated, and farmers are made whole. Expanded use of biofuels is a win for both energy security & affordability.

🌱 Good for the soil. Good for biofuels. Good for farmers. New USDA guidelines could help farmers get more value from conservation practices like cover crops, no-till and better nutrient management. By recognizing how these practices can reduce the carbon intensity of crops used to make biofuels, farmers could have new opportunities in the growing biofuels market.
