US Energy Secretary Chris Wright told Fox News that oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz were averaging almost 13 million barrels a day. “There was a day just this last week where over 20 million barrels of oil, more than pre-conflict levels, flowed out of the strait,” he said, adding that “the running average today is almost 13 million barrels a day.” Wright said current energy-price pressure stemmed more from limited refining capacity than from oil flows. “The pricing problem today is much more refining capacity than it actually is the flow of oil,” he said. Wright said the United States produces more natural gas than Iran, Russia and China combined. Dezful County in Khuzestan province, southwestern Iran, will carry out controlled explosions to dispose of munitions in some areas on Sunday morning, the county governor’s public relations office said. It said explosion sounds in the area would be related to the operation.

Majid Bahrami, head of the criminal investigation police in Ijrud County, in the northwestern province of Zanjan, was killed while on duty “in an operation against goods and currency smuggling,” Iran’s state media reported on Sunday. Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority warned that charterers who force ships to transit the Strait of Hormuz without required procedures could be added to its non-compliance list, with restrictions imposed on vessels linked to them, Iranian state media reported. The authority said such voyages could expose ships, owners and crews to financial and physical risks. The authority also published a letter it said came from the owners of an unnamed vessel, apologizing for an unauthorized transit. In the letter, the owners said the charterer had ordered the ship to proceed without completing required declarations and approvals, leaving the master under commercial pressure to comply.
