An egomaniac Indian doctor (allegedly with qualifications...who checked his background? Likely no one) horrifically and monstrously took the life of an 18 year old Irish girl and yet he is STILL being paid after all this time. Yes you heard that right. This was far more than just medical negligence or an accident (read the details below).
Meanwhile, the Irish press repeatedly call her a woman to diminish the fact he killed someone's child and to protect the HSE who are ILLEGALLY employing doctors without proper background checks, qualification checks or proficient English.
This is Jessica Sheedy. Jessica was someone's daughter. Her mother gave birth to her just 18 years previously. Back when Irish hospitals were not manned by God knows who. Back when we didn't have an overloaded system because of inward migration. This is the reason these individuals are employed in the first place. Yet you are told they hold up our hospitals.
The system that wouldn't be overloaded if mass immigration was not an issue in the first place. You and your loved ones are being put in danger in the one place you should be safe and cared for. In a place where you place your life or the life of your loved one in the hands of another.
The HSE is breaking the law and the kicker is you have NO LEGAL RIGHT to demand proof of qualifications, criminal background check or English proficiency. Due to GDPR rights of the doctor (or "doctor" in some cases). You are also not allowed to refuse treatment based on nationality or race, as this is discrimination (even though the checking issues only relate to non-native doctors).
Furthermore, even though the HSE is breaking the law they won't be investigated by Gardaí. Something has to actually happen to you (I.e. a sexual assault) before you can make a complaint.
Remember the Indian surgeon, Dr. Ashish Uday Lal (qualified in New Zealand), caused the death of 18-year-old Jessica in May 2018 at University Hospital Limerick.
During elective surgery to remove a benign abdominal tumour, he damaged her aorta, resulting in massive blood loss. Dr. Lal refused to seek help, explicitly forbidding the head nurse from contacting a vascular surgeon (Prof. Eamon Kavanagh) on two occasions, and proceeded with inadequate surgical support despite the case’s complexity. Jessica died three days later from multiple organ failure. The coroner returned a verdict of medical misadventure.
In January 2026, Dr. Lal admitted three counts of professional misconduct and ten counts of poor professional performance before the Medical Council’s fitness-to-practice inquiry. He apologised to Jessica’s family.
Yet nearly eight years later (as of June 2026), he remains on full paid administrative leave from the HSE. He continues to receive his full consultant salary - currently in the €238,000–€286,000+ range per year (with inflation adjustments), amounting to roughly €1.8–2.1 million in public funds.
Remarkably, while receiving this full Irish taxpayer-funded salary, the HSE permitted him to work for approximately one year as a supervised locum consultant general surgeon at Gisborne Hospital in New Zealand, where he earned additional income on top of his HSE pay.
No final dismissal has taken place due to ongoing regulatory and employment processes. The case has sparked widespread public anger over accountability in the health service.
So he has been receiving roughly €4.6k to €5.5k per week for nearly 8 years while on paid administrative leave.
This is pure basic salary - it doesn't include any on-call allowances or other extras that consultants can earn when actively working."
