The Michigan Current Economic Conditions Index plunged 12.2% this month to 44.7, its lowest reading since index began in 1951. They are more negative than during the 2008 financial crisis, COVID-19, or any previous crisis.

If Trump increased US diesel imports from Canada by 4%, he would gain as much fuel as from this Russia deal. But the Canadians are global super-villains, so who wants to buy from them when you could enrich Putin instead?

Today Trump announced a deal to supply Russian diesel to U.S. and global markets. Just three weeks ago, he signed a law targeting major buyers of Russian oil and gas with tariffs of up to 100%. The goal was to cut off funding for Putin’s war against Ukraine. So what changed?
