Stores need to realize that if they're going to lock everything up, they need people to unlock promptly. I'm about to stop going to Lowe's for this reason alone.

Does anyone else have institutions sending emails with subject lines like "from the desk of the person on the from line"? What a colossal waste of time and respect to recipients. and by the way do you really only work from a desk and want to tell me that? And then add an image to talk about your desk? Thank you @Yale and @YaleAthletics - this is inane.

it's almost worse for Copilot... After spreading it on everything, they now have "Office Agent" after they killed the Office brand (Microsoft 365 yo!). I am amazed that MS hasn't just undone that mistake yet. Just go back to Office, and re-center copilot to what it actually does well.
siri and copilot brands are mostly dead to me by this point copilot likely an example of being too early in that the tech wasn't ready + they over extended it, siri an example of being too late

Hegseth has fired several top military generals and commanders, including the secretary of the Navy and now you have Kid Rock addressing Pentagon officials on the Strait of Hormuz. If you’re still not sure the USA has reached shithole country status, here you go.

I was yesterday years old when I learned that the tubs of screws that come with a screwdriver head have a holder for it in the inside of the lid, so you don't need to play go fish in the tub with all the screws! 🤯

Oh boy, this is spot on. Someone shared this with me in chat, but some genius put it together. Seattle is spiting itself even more than WA state is. What a shame to lose the handle on constructive capitalism so terribly.

This is super interesting - I had never seen this. I also imagine it is a lagging indicator, which makes me worried the steep drop in rankings is understating our relative problem (the second image George shared is the composite ranking for WA relative to the other states - where we've started dropping off in last few years. table is pasted below). thanks @roussos_g for sharing this - will keep an eye on this over time.
@IsForAt Great Qs. I’ve often asked “What outcomes is WA producing w/ taxpayer $?”(tinyurl.com/44p2jksc) this yr; What are WA Gov’s OKRs to its taxpayers? WA State Economic Climate Study (11/25 tinyurl.com/bwtsnsf5) is best WA Policy scorecard I see & welcome better info.

OK folks who are new to WA state. let me explain this in a way that might be more approachable. Let's start with this video - of how Eddie Vedder came to Seattle piped.video/VX9dJhefT6k He was from Chicago, had moved to San Diego, and came to Seattle because DAYUUMMM the music scene was great here! (so cool that people invited him up here - so many great musicians here!) Could the music scene have been good in other places? yes. but WE WINNINGGGG! Seattle 1996 also got all sorts of computer nerds up in this. For the last 30 years we've pulled WAY above our weight for companies starting or scaling. it's mostly because of all the momentum.... but we have a great tax system too. that's how you make it obvious. you feel the vibe... but you convince yourself with the taxes. I know many of you are like "oh, my loins feel this. Lauryn hill and Roberta flack, you can't make me feel things like Brian Hall does". and yeah, I hear that a lot. but I digress. it turns out, if you have it - the people want to come. and Seattle is a tiny town in the grand scheme, Redmond and Bellevue are wonderful cousins. If you think for a moment we have manifest destiny for the next Microsoft/Amazon/Google/Meta job you are a damned fool. they are just hiring the best that are already up here, and hoping they leave now. Microsoft is the only place looking over her shoulder saying "what? am I the sucker?". If you love Seattle area like I do - then you need to realize that your legislators (non-job creators) are trying to send your kids out of state. they don't want them to go to UW. and they don't want to make jobs for them. that's f'd in my book.

Seattle: surprised that increasing costs decreased demand? This is from KUOW / NPR BTW. "Customers still want the convenience, but many balked at the fees that the apps tacked on after the new law." Seattle and WA state - Now do taxes on specific businesses and classes of people - will it increase them or decrease them in the city/State? and the restaurant owners are the ones that suffer. just like the city or state will if they do silly things with taxes.

That's pretty good - but that "Redemption" front page was somewhere between stupid and silly. This is about this team, not the last team. And those of us who were fans 12 years ago are fine with just celebrating this team, those who weren't are fine w/ just celebrating this team. classic example of a Seattle Times self own at a big moment.

NPR in Seattle just reminded listeners to celebrate peacefully after the Superbowl. I, for one, would like to meet a Sunday morning NPR listener who has ever, or plans to, rampage after a football game.

Hey party people, is there a weirder thing you can think of that we've all been exposed to and never ever heard of anyone getting in trouble for than this? I cannot tell you how many people I've had to explain to that the law is only what goes after you. Is this not the best example?

For those of you in Seattle, or who care about public schools in general, this article that will follow is well worth a read - explaining how Seattle lost students. Unfortunately we ar "disappearers" with two of our kids and know so many people who did the same (or moved to adjoining cities not doing this). Getting rid of highly capable / more challenging courses was a big part for a number of folks - in the guise of "equity".

Microsoft is totally losing the plot with individuals. They are my first love, and I poured my heart into building the Surface business. My 17 yo daughter's Surface battery is swelling (DANGEROUS!) and I just had to fill out a clueless web form to try to get it safely taken care of. RIP Microsoft for individuals.
