🚨 Our paper on drug violence and Central American emigration was accepted in JDE! Drug violence raises intentions and preparations to emigrate to the US. Evidence suggests this operates through worsening local economies, not insecurity alone. 🔗 doi.org/10.1016/j.jdeveco.20…

Happy to share my new article “The Public Security Issue Area” out in @PRQJournal. Is public security a unidimensional issue? Is it really captured by the left-right spectrum? I argue mostly no to both of these questions. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.…

Findings demonstrate that 1) these policy categories are not fundamentally mutually exclusive, and 2) while ideology does help us understand who proposes certain public security portfolios, there is substantial ideological intra-group heterogeneity.

This article was a mixed methods journey, to say the least! You’ll find text scaling, latent class analysis, interviews, case studies for external validity, etc. etc. I’m grateful that it received an honorable mention from QMMR last year for best qualitative evidence, as well.
