On September 11, 2001, Mark Dodge, a 20 year old Army soldier, survived the Pentagon attack and returned with his unit to help others. He moved survivors to triage tents and searched the wreckage for survivors and victims’ remains. His unit spent days on recovery efforts and nights patrolling the capital
Five years after those acts of heroism, the Army veteran made his Texas A&M debut. He played linebacker from 2006–07, recording 168 tackles and two interceptions, earning honorable mention All-Big 12 honors

Plot the machine shops and the map of the Texas economy draws itself.
Somebody has done it. The USA Machine Shop Site maps about 40,000 across the country.
Zoom in and the Texas Triangle appears without being asked for. Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston as two dense masses, Austin and San Antonio joined by a corridor that is now almost continuous through Georgetown, San Marcos and New Braunfels.
Then look at what else lights up. Midland. Corpus Christi. Beaumont. Longview. Lubbock.
None of those are population centres. That is the Permian, petrochemicals and ports, East Texas crude, agriculture. Machine shops go where the work is, which makes this a better map of the real economy than most of the ones you get shown.
Thirty years of construction and engineering disputes has taught me that this kind of capability lives in people. A company can move its headquarters in a quarter. It cannot move a workforce that knows how to hold a tolerance.
You cannot buy that with an incentive package. You can only grow it, and Texas has spent a long time growing it.

I wasn't in DC for last week's House Science Committee hearing on advanced nuclear, but the story it told was clear.
@AaloAtomics, @AntaresNuclear, and @valaratomics all reached criticality this year. The question isn't whether America can move fast on advanced nuclear anymore. We've shown we can.
Next up: full-power testing, sustained operations, fuel performance, manufacturing, licensing, and getting reliable power on the grid.
Glad the hearing recognized @ENERGY, DOE-ID, and the national labs — that partnership worked, and we'll keep meeting the call with the rigor and safety this field demands.
