Boney dominated at the highest HS level (led in sacks?). Then recorded three sacks in the AA game against the best HS competition in the country. The rating services literally said "we can't upgrade a 6'1" edge, but if he was 6'4" he'd be a 5-star." Might have been a mistake.

I’m going out on a short limb and say Tariq Boney sees way more reps this week vs Iowa. The Hawkeyes are gonna test the young buck on outside zone and he’s gonna stuff it at the point of attack. I can see it now.

Undefeated in the non-conference. Now it’s go-time. Iowa comes in next week averaging 400 yards of offense (split evenly run & pass). Their star RB Kamari Moulton sat out this weekend’s game against Northern Iowa. I don’t know what his status is for Saturday, but I would expect to see him. Their defense has yielded fewer than 100ypg avg in both running and passing. This will be a dogfight.

There’s still work to do: The turnovers have to stop. The blocking needs sorting out. They’re getting better but it’s still below the level needed to beat a good front 7 like Iowa. Gotta get healthy, too: Sprague, Berry, and Marshall.

Bryce was 19 of 25, 225 yards passing, 2 TDs, no picks. He carried the ball 6 times for 22 yards but did fumble. Andrew Marsh - a huge day after not a whole lot of action the first 2 games. 10 catches for 105 yards and a Touchdown. Very happy for 3 to have a breakout game.

Yes, it’s UTEP, but it’s still a blitzing defender right in Bryce’s face and he hangs in there and finds Marsh who takes it to the house. You get better at football through reps.

Watch the left side of the line just road grating Miners. Hogan Hansen is in the backfield (possibly subbing for Hoffman🤷) Hiter finds the crease between Hansen and Norton for a good gain.

Now the blocking is starting to get to the second level. It’s not perfect, but I think this is the largest gain from a RB we’ve had all year. Again, the patience & eyes of a running back get defenders to commit to the wrong gap.

3rd down Smith Snowden read & react. The blocker had no chance. He doesn’t make the tackle but it’s enough to allow the Cavalry to arrive.
