I’ve embarked on an expedition to the Weddell Sea in Antarctica aboard RV Polarstern. Here I will be spending 7 weeks researching the mitochondrial physiology of the Icefish which have lost the gene for haemoglobin.
I’m excited to begin sampling and collect our first fish! 🌊🎣

It was great to be surrounded by researchers from around the world at the 28th #EDRC2025, all sharing a passion for Drosophila.
Presenting my poster was a highlight and gave me some useful feedback on my latest work on hypomagnetic fields and quantum sensing. 🪰🧲💎

It was a pleasure to spend time educating primary school children & the community about the versatility and importance of Drosophila in research & development. As well as giving a quick snapshot of the current research I have done in Neurodegenerative diseases! 🪰🧠
Every day is a school day - turns out I’m 75% fruit fly! 🪰 (ie we share 75% of our DNA 🧬) and researchers at @NottmTrentUni use fruit flies (which only live a few days) to investigate diseases and test drugs to treat them. The @NottsFOSAC Science Day is so much fun!

Today marks the official end of my 1st BBSRC DTP rotation at the UoN/NTU. I have gained invaluable experience in various aspects of research in bioscience. I was fortunate to present my results at the inaugural Neuro@Nottingham conference surrounded by other fascinating research.
