Very proud of what military are doing but they signed up for this & they train for it every day. Volunteers from Border Force, MoD Civil Service, and FCDO are real heroes. They don’t train for this. They don’t know what to expect. But they’re going out anyway. Good on them.

In one tweet you’ve summed up the issue that fatally undermined the Afghan campaign. Civil servants being deployed who’ve no training & don’t know what to expect. I don’t blame them -hats off to them- but a system that deploys untrained, unprepared people is seriously flawed.
