What a pleasure to work in partnership with colleagues in @ANC1B to fight for place management entities for BOTH our neighborhoods. They may take diff forms, but they strive towards similar goals.
Yesterday I testified in Council on the importance of place-management entities, supporting both a BID for the U Street corridor (finally!) and a Neighborhood Management Authority for Columbia Heights... which should be the beating heart of the District's Latino community.

My ANC opponent's mailers say he's focused on cleaning, rats, & public spaces. But he never attends cleanups, didn't testify on rat/trash bills, & won't back the CH Neighborhood Management Authority to improve the way we manage/invest in spaces. My record: sherman4anc.com/priorities

1/4 As revenue tightens, we should get creative about neighborhood-level econ dev strategies. The proposed #ColumbiaHeightsDC Neighborhood Management Authority (NMA) would be a community-run entity w dedicated funding & staff for public space mgmt & boosting commercial corridors.
Today D.C. CFO Glen Lee spoke to the D.C. Chamber of Commerce about the state's the city's economy, and, well, he said "economic and revenue signals are flashing red."
More than 36,000 jobs lost since last year, unemployment higher than nation, home price growth down.

3/4 #ColumbiaHeightsDC could pilot a new model for mixed use corridors that need more capacity than a Main Street but where a property owner funded BID isn’t feasible or right fit. If successful NMA could be adapted elsewhere in DC!

3/4 Why? Because #ColumbiaHeightsDC is one of DC’s densest neighborhoods, home to top 15 busiest Metro & a major commercial/cultural center. Yet no single org is responsible for bringing together services & long-term investments we need. And efforts to form a BID have failed!
