Reading balls in the dirt drill. The screen & tarp in front of the pitcher(Approximately 15’) forces the base runner to read the trajectory out of the hand. If you wait to see the ball hit the dirt, you are late. Part of the process is paying attention to pitch tendencies & know when it’s a high probability breaking ball/split situation.

A revisit after watching a game today where the starting pitcher threw 45 pitches in the 1st which took about 25 minutes. The leadoff hitter swung at the 1st pitch & was out. I’m not criticizing that approach because with today’s pitching, hitters are reticent to het

If the pitch is down on the outer rail moving it up is not enough. The subtle diagonal up & over move gives you the best chance to convert this stri-ball into a strike. This is a great example of a smooth & fast diagonal move.

IMO the sideways shuffle is the key versus the walk & shuffle.
A tale of two contact plays: 🔴 George Springer poor secondary — flat-footed, has to restart, thrown out at home. 🟢 Ukyo Shuto perfect secondary — momentum through contact into clean break on ground ball — safe at home. Similar play. Dissimilar secondaries.

Alex Bregman Gets Hit in the Face 😳⚾ #baseball piped.video/shorts/3gu-2abQG… via @YouTube How can we mitigate this situation in the future? SUGGESTION: Find the on deck circle areas with right handed hitters hitting & left handed hitters hitting where the fewest hard hit elevated line drives are hit & that are not in the pitcher’s visual tunnel. Basically have the on deck hitter on the 1st base side with a left handed hitter hitting & on the 3rd base side with a right handed hitter hitting. Keep the on deck hitters in those areas like we are keeping the base coaches in the coaching box.

I think this is ultra critical on amateur fields where the perimeter fencing puts the on deck hitter closer to the hitter.

How simple is this BHB to 3B by Altuve. It’s about speed & direction versus surprise. 1) Early show. 2) Off the plate leaning in. 3) Elbows pointing down. 4) Barrel pointed towards the 1B coach. 5) Catching the ball on the bat. 6) Running after he sees the ball down.

No rush here. Long enough hold for the umpire to make a decision, but not so long it creates friction between the catcher & umpire. ( Important on the amateur level)

Good sliding vid from Kevin. IMO it is best to slide on your right side because it puts you face away from an errant throw(Safety Issue) but more importantly it puts your eyes in the OF so call see a ball that has eluded the infielder so you can take the extra base. jw
How the slide is taught — U.S. vs. Japan. 🇺🇸: square on the backside, hands up to protect the fingers. 🇯🇵: turn the body sideways / twist toward the folded-leg side (体の向きを横にする), with the hand naturally coming down.

Muscles atrophy when you don’t use them. So do skills. Just because you worked on it in the fall/spring training, if you don’t work on it periodically during the season ( Frequently is variable depending on the skill & the individual players need’s & capabilities) you will lose your ability to maintain the skill level necessary to be your or your team’s best version of itself.

In the day if you came in high at home plate, you were going to pay the price. Here Roy Campanella levels Billy Martin. Just part of the game that everyone understood.

Very athletic PFP play. Key takeaway is the pitcher maintaining a low center of mass on this 180 spin. Enhances body control & direction.
