Cliveden House burnt down in 1849. The architect behind Parliament rebuilt it in two years. Now, Parliament has spent over a decade just planning its own repairs. What happened to the country that built things? 👇

I want a housing system that delivers homes & public confidence. I’ve got four principles: ✅ Revive our towns first ✅ Bring everything a place needs into one plan ✅ Involve the public up front ✅ Beauty & nature for everyone Read the plan here: ben4mayor.com/housing_manife… Great to discuss it with @SirSimonClarke

Rents up. Energy bills up. Food bills up. Labour’s tsunami of regulations and tax rises are pushing up prices. No Government can fully control prices, but these extra costs are battering consumers at the very worst time. My message to Conservative conference👇🏾

🔵 ALTRINCHAM & SALE WEST (tranche 2): I hear Oliver Carroll who stood here last time (in place of Sir Graham Brady) is not applying here, or anywhere else this time, so as to concentrate on his London legal work. However, two other contenders who are applying are James Cowling and Laura Evans.

NGT started because aspirational 20-40s were asked to pay the price for low growth. Now the Conservatives are doing everything we asked for. We won. 👉 Abolishing Stamp Duty. 👉 Supply side infra and tax reform. 👉 Lowering NICS. 👉 Abolishing growth blocking Quangos.

A supply side reform to reduce the cost of employment. Pretty sensible stuff.
Conservatives will cut the cost of hiring young people. Today we announced we’ll HALVE employer National Insurance for 21–24-year-olds to help them get their first job. Labour’s youth unemployment crisis is holding a generation back. We’ll get Britain working again.

Far too many people, especially young people, are struggling to get on the housing ladder. In 1996, it took about a year to save for a deposit. Today, it takes about a decade. We have to go back to being a country where people who work hard and do the right thing are rewarded.

Great turnout for Hooray Henry. Turns out @KemiBadenoch was listening & beat us to it! Pledging to scrap the £100K childcare cliff edge, and @griffitha wants to end the 60% tax trap. Aspiration is back. #CPC26 @alysdenby @EmmaBest22 @alexgeorgiou @cdonnithorne1 @amritadunn

Scrapping the £100k childcare cliff edge. ✅ Drives growth by incentivising work. Ends ‘Mt Henry’ bulge of people earning just under. Tories firmly on the side of the aspirational once more. Exactly where we should be.

Thanks @edvaizey for having me on @TimesRadio to talk about The Ownership Society. The answer to all our pressing challenges - social care, economic growth, welfare reform - will lie in empowering people to take more responsibility themselves, not making govt even more extensive

In 1997 the Tories bequeathed New Labour: - 3.5% GDP growth - 4.5% wage growth - 4.6% manufacturing output growth - Energy independence and falling energy prices - A brand new nuclear power station (1995) - New reservoirs (1992) - Construction of Manchester airport's second runway - Falling unemployment - London as the world’s leading foreign-exchange centre - A newly opened Channel Tunnel - Debt at just 37% of GDP - On track for a balanced budget Andy Burnham just said that this was failure. Somehow.

“Let’s be honest” - please. Honesty would be accepting that people can't afford homes because we don't build where people actually want to live, and because immigration is too high. Labour’s “solution”? Use taxpayer money to subsidise people to go into debt. Genius.
Let's be honest. A lot of young people have stopped believing they'll ever own their own home. That's what happens when rents are high, house prices are high, and saving for a deposit feels impossible. My Labour government is stepping in to help. With Your First Home, first-time buyers will be able to buy a new-build home with a deposit of just 2.5%. Because hard work and saving should count for something. And because the dream of owning your own home shouldn't belong only to those with help from the bank of Mum and Dad.

The Government promised to build 1.5 million new homes over the course of this Parliament. Then, they put up tax, introduced a load of new regulations, and made life impossible for builders with their mad energy policies. So, unsurprisingly, nobody can afford to build anything!
