Somebody, somewhere in NYC for whatever reason recorded the New York 1 morning news broadcast on Sept. 11, 2001. They wound up recording history. It starts at 8:30 a.m. ET. You get 15 minutes of news from the Before Times. Then the world changes. youtube.com/watch?v=FH9bvzeF…

According to multiple people I spoke with Michael Block walked off the course in the Senior European Tour event after the 12th hole today in the final round of the PGA Seniors According to the multiple people I spoke with, the word in the locker room was he didn't say anything to his playing partners. Multiple people said it was known Block was frustrated with the course conditions. This morning he showed up to his tee time late and was given a two-stroke penalty. He shot an opening nine of 43 and after a bogey on 12, he walked in. On the leaderboard he is listed as a DQ. He was in the field on a sponsors exemption.

This morning, I watched a broadcast without broadcasters. Just raw PGA Tour golf. It was weird. And great. It raises some fascinating questions about the future. And it could be even better. Some thoughts: golf.com/news/pga-tours-new-…

Even the color grading and saturation that NBC uses are pitiful. It’s wild how much better (and more natural/realistic) the world feed looks. The leaderboards and graphics have been a mess. Not to mention the actual substance of the broadcast. These people truly hate us. Meanwhile I’m also watching the world feed and it’s light years better (with less resources!) We’re at the point where golf orgs need to be willing to accept less money from NBC’s competitors. Choking the life out of 2 of the 4 majors per year, plus the Ryder Cup. Their mission is to further the game and put it in the best possible light, I just don’t know how you can keep giving them the rights.

In Germany, a talented 14-year-old earns his club money. In America, his parents pay the club $15,000 a year. That single inversion explains why "we will not" is the most accurate line ever written about US soccer. FIFA built a global system for this. Training compensation and solidarity payments send a cut of every transfer fee back to the clubs that developed the player, from age 12 onward. Develop one future pro and your academy gets paid for a decade. Barcelona's La Masia, Ajax, every Bundesliga academy runs on this logic. The kid is the asset. US Soccer refuses to enforce those rules. When Seattle's Crossfire Premier claimed its $60,000 share of DeAndre Yedlin's transfer to Tottenham, it got nothing. Claims on the Dempsey and Bradley transfers died partly because the federation couldn't even produce the youth training records. So American clubs earn zero dollars when a kid turns pro. They earn when a kid enrolls. Which makes the parent the customer, and the product is whatever keeps the parent writing checks: travel tournaments, hotel weekends, $500 showcase events, private training at $100 an hour. Elite pathways run $8,000 to $20,000 a year. A comparable academy spot in Italy costs about 120 euros. Follow the incentive one level deeper and it gets darker. A club dependent on fees can't cut its weakest paying players, so rosters optimize for retention over development. The scouting pool shrinks to families who can afford the cliff, which appears around age 11, exactly when development matters most. The country runs a talent filter sorted by household income instead of ability. Every four years someone proposes fixing this. The proposal always requires the people profiting from the $15,000 model to vote themselves out of business. They will not.
“And every four years when the World Cup comes around, we will say that we’d dominate if we had a stronger youth program.” “And will we develop a stronger youth program?” “We will not.”

A full list of NCAA schools that finished in the national top 16 this past calendar sports year in: • Football • Men’s Basketball • Women’s Basketball • Baseball • Softball Texas. That’s the list. And if you expand it to include women’s volleyball, men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s swimming & diving, women’s swimming & diving, men’s and women’s tennis, beach volleyball, women’s rowing, and women’s track & field, Texas finished in the top 16 nationally in 15 of its 17 varsity sports. Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian was asked by a fan at The Touchdown Club of Houston if there is any way to get the College Football Playoff Committee to factor in strength of schedule in their decision-making. Sarkisian said there's a team in this state that plays in another conference that, if he played his 2s and 3s, his team would go undefeated, and they'll make the playoffs this year.

THE ANCIENT WATCHTOWER AUSTIN, Texas (KTBC) — Long before the skyline reached into the clouds, the limestone peak at Mount Bonnell served as a silent witness to the birth of a capital. Historical records and local archaeology suggest that as the village of Waterloo was being carved into the wilderness below, Comanche scouts were likely watching every move from this very spot. Using the 785-foot elevation as a strategic sentinel, indigenous groups utilized the peak to monitor the arrival of surveyors and the earliest cabins built along the Colorado River. When the first pioneers pushed westward into the hills, they didn’t find an untouched wilderness—they found a well-worn highway of history. Early settlers documented a "beaten track" of moccasin prints carved into the pass of Mount Bonnell, proving this wasn't just a scenic hill to early Austinites, but a vital frontier boundary. They discovered a major thoroughfare that connected the river basin to the deep Hill Country, serving as a natural fortress where the high-ground advantage made it one of the most contested spots in the early Texas Republic. Perhaps no figure is more tied to the rugged history of the peak than the legendary Texas Ranger William "Bigfoot" Wallace. In 1839, while the new capital was still in its infancy, Wallace reportedly retreated to a cave on the slopes of Mount Bonnell to recover from a severe illness. Living off the land and hiding in the limestone shadows, Wallace’s stay in the "Bonnell Cave" became a staple of Texas lore, marking the spot where one of the state's most famous lawmen found refuge on the very edge of Comanche territory. @fox7austin
