WARSHIP WEDNESDAYS | BRP Davao del Sur (LD602)
The BRP Davao del Sur (LD602) is the Philippine Navy’s second Tarlac-class Landing Platform Dock (LPD), and one of the largest and most versatile vessels in its fleet.
Measuring 123 meters in length, the ship is designed to perform a wide range of missions, from strategic sealift and amphibious operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR).
Built by PT PAL Indonesia, BRP Davao del Sur was commissioned into service on May 31, 2017. Since then, it has served as a vital asset in transporting troops, vehicles, equipment, and supplies across the archipelago. Its spacious well deck, flight deck, and cargo capacity enable it to support military operations while providing essential assistance to communities affected by natural disasters and other emergencies.
The ship has also participated in multinational military exercises, including the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise in 2018 and Exercise Balikatan in 2024.
Named after the province of Davao del Sur, the BRP Davao del Sur embodies the Philippine Navy’s commitment to strengthening maritime capabilities and delivering mission-ready support to the Filipino people.
