WEA and its local affiliates are using students and families as leverage to force districts into commitments they cannot afford. Their demands for higher compensation and expanded staffing ignore the hard limits of district budgets, while strike threats turn disruption into a bargaining weapon. The consequences are entirely predictable: program cuts, larger classes, layoffs, depleted reserves, and less local control. WEA may claim victory at the table, but students, remaining staff, and taxpayers are left to pay the bill.

Washingtonians are finally understanding the Jody Allen connection to what has been happening to sportsmen opportunity and wildlife management in our state. For more than a year and a half, we have been digging into Jody Allen’s Wild Lives Foundation and organizations like Washington Wildlife First, following the funding and connections behind the preservationist and animal-rights agenda increasingly influencing Washington wildlife policy. It was a gut punch to realize that what we had been wondering about was sitting right in front of all of us. I think I had just driven past the VMAC when the revelation hit. The woman most Washingtonians knew as the billionaire owner of the Seattle Seahawks was also funding organizations involved in the very fights sportsmen have been dealing with here in Washington. And the hypocrisy is hard to ignore. Pretty hard to not feel totally deceived. Washington hunters and anglers have spent decades supporting the Seahawks. Buying tickets, merchandise, and spending Sundays watching games. But when those same people wanted to spend their own money and their own time hunting, fishing, trapping, putting meat in the freezer and teaching their children to enjoy the outdoors, we’re seeing wealthy interests use their checkbooks to influence the policies governing those activities. Meanwhile, most sportsmen had no idea that the billionaire who owned their favorite NFL team was financially connected to organizations working to “reform” 😒 wildlife policy in Washington and non-profits deeply entrenched with the commissioners most recently under investigation by the Governor’s office One person’s massive wealth should not give them the ability to quietly reshape how an entire state recreates and lives, manages wildlife and feeds itself simply because their personal beliefs are different from those of the regular people living here. We need Washingtonians to understand who and what we are dealing with so we can have the best chance possible at preserving our heritage and wildlife conservation into the future. We’re thankful to Steven Ziegler for using his platform to get this information in front of a much larger audience.
